I got pulled over and the officer told me that modified exhausts are illegal in maryland. Fortunately he didnt give me a ticket for it, and let me go. Has anyone gotten pulled over in the state of maryland because of their modified exhaust?

Never heard of anything like that...if he didn't even give you a fix it ticket chances are he is just making it up. Too bad you didn't ask him where you can read that in the law.

Is crazy because he followed me like for five minutes before pulling me over. He followed me all the way to my house and pulled me right infront of my house. I asked him what the problem was and he said he pulled me over because of my modified exhaust, but he said he wasnt going to write me up for that. I guess he just needed an excuse to pull me over and check up on me.

MD Transportation Article 22-609:
§ 22-609.
(a) A person may not modify the exhaust system or any other noise abatement device of a motor vehicle driven or to be driven on any highway in this State in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.
(b) A person may not drive on any highway in this State a motor vehicle with an exhaust system or noise abatement device modified in a way prohibited by subsection (a) of this section.

Is that based on the regular exhaust or the SPT exhaust? That cop was a complete asshat anyway...I guess these types of tickets are ones you just pay as cost of ownership of one of the greatest vehicles on the planet. Of course a guy from Washington state figures this all out. While I was in the Navy stationed at Whidbey Island I actually got two crazy tickets that stuck in court...

1) Taking a corner too fast (Was going the speed limit through a corner in my 300ZXTT )...complete BS, but Judge relied on cops discretion.

2) Sounded like I was going to fast (1995 Honda DX). I don't know if you people know what a DX is, but it is NOT fast at all...this was complete BS.

3) (I know I said two) I got a seatbelt violation because I took my seatbelt off to get my registration papers.

4) (Not BS but funny) I got pulled over by a cop and he said something like "I don't know how fast you were going, but I got you at 117 after seing your brake lights for a quarter mile." (I was pegged out coming back from Canada ~190mph,JWT ECU,Exhaust,Intake speedo may have been off due to wheel/tire combo...but you get the point.) The only reason I didn't go to jail is because I was deploying to Japan in the morning and he respected the military (Still gave me a ticket for 99 in a 70, said he would have to take me to jail if it was 100 in 70...) On a side note, the 300ZX is a BEAST at high speeds...it has PERFECT aerodynamics. It helps that the roads (I-5 if I remember correctly) were immaculate at the time.

originally manufactured.... so the stock exhaust. I've never had a problem with any cops about loud exhaust (I was in the Army and went all over). Just dont drive like a idiot and you usually wont have any problems.

I can't help the OP with the issue at hand, but I read this post, and thought it was funny. I was once followed by a cop for ten minutes, also all the way to my house, and when I got out he pulled up blocking my driveway and I just kind of ignored him and went to get my son out of the car. Well, he said that my exhaust for aftermarket, it's not btw, and that is why he followed me, because of how loud it was. I asked if he had a decibal meter, and when he said he didn't I asked if he could move his car so my wife, who had just driven up, could pull her car into our driveway./

No ticket...No Foul -- How much would the ticket for a loud exhaust be? If it's cheap I wouldn't change a thing.

I had the TurboXS RFL (Really F!@king Loud) on my 05 STi. I went several years without as much as a warning from a cop. I finally got stopped a couple of months ago, and handed a loud muffler ticket.

Here in Jersey your exhaust must exceed 90 decibles to be considered illegal. The sound test must be performed according the SAE standards...which requires both a dyno and a decible meter. These are two things that no cop has in the field.

I was going to fight the ticket, but I found out it was only 40 dollars. It really wasn't worth the hastle.

I've had a few cops behind me, next to me.. The most they do is look and just keep going the other way. My tuner told me to keep the silencer (if your exhaust came with one) in the backseat or glovebox where ever and just say the bolt broke off you're on your way to fix it.
