Default to wet your taste buds. STi 1/4 mile run :)

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=348130

"A car tester for a magazine at the qualcomm 1/8th drags in San diego had the new 04 STI car for a week and had taken it through its paces thus far. I talked to him a bit on the performance of the vehicle...which was beautiful to see in person. Anyhow, he said it dyno'd 250whp (I don't know what type of dyno) THe turbo is an IHI VF30 which suprised me since I hadn't heard anything on the type of turbo. I figured something a little larger for the bump in displacement, but what do I know. I didn't ask how much boost it runs. He said it ran 13.0 flat in the quarter (I didn't ask where). As for comparison purposes, he recently tested the Evo8 and said it doesn't even compare to the new Sti. His next adventure is to hit the gravel...eek."

The guy driving it was obviously a press guy.. lol Hope we don't get him in trouble. But anyway on the video in this link he ran a 60 foot time of 1.9 secs. Supposedly his 1/8 the times were around 8.7. I think the flat 13 second quarter that comes from the link was taken at a different reace track. Dyno was also supposedly 250 whp.

Now for my 2 cents. This was in california on thier cheap gas. Plus You got to remember that we have to shift one time more than most. So that could explain the 1/8th time and us still hitting 13 sec. Also means that this sti is one major beast, even on the top end.

Dan

That poor Neon gets destroyed!

It would be nice to know whether he was runing with CAs 91 oct gas. If so we should have a 12sec car on the east coast.

I don't think I buy that dyno at all. That would be only 17% drivetrain losses....which is more toward the side of a 2 WD vehicle. I thought regular WRXs were seeing close to 23% drivetrain loss?

And a VF30.....hmmm. Some pretty good sources said it wasn't your run of the mill IHI turbo.

Thanks for the info, but I'd like to hear more reports to either back up or disagree with this writeup.

are you crazy california runs the best gas out there, thats why they pay so much for theirs. it burns faster, better, and cleaner than any other kind of states gas. especially their 91 octane like wojo said

I'm pretty sure he meant they were forced to run 91 octane, which is what he meant by Cali gas. By law they can only have 91 octane.

Most other places they would be able to run 93 at least. Of course this could mean more power. The EVO gained 10 hp on the dyno with 93 vs 91.

I really don't like posts like this. All it does is get people excited or make them argue about what you said. Lets wait and see guys. May 1st is coming up soon and then we will see what is going down. If 13.0 flat is for real then this car aint running 300hp and a curb weight of 3263lbs. It has to be a "ringer press car" or it has to be an underated engine making more than 300hp. that would back up the 250hp on the dyno...either a ringer or the production car has more than 300hp. Lets just wait and see.

You know though.....a bright spot to this.....and maybe this just makes it worse.

Someone on NASIOC had their dealer tell them that the STi was way under rated, similar to the SRT-4. He said it would have closer to 360 hp. Where he pulled that number from, can't tell ya.....but check this.

250/360=69.4%......30% drivetrain loss....which is pretty close to what an AWD system would lose.

Judge for yourself until May 1.

Here is a link telling of the sti against a 98 cobra.

http://forums.clubsi.com/showflat.ph...o=&fpart=1

No video but this is what they said.

"My friend came down with his stock 99 Cobra. We took it to carlsbad. One his first run he lined up against a brand new WRX STi.. The STi ran a 13.3 and my friend ran a 15.7 @ 89!!

After that, the STi ran 13.3's all day and the best my friend could do was low 14's at 100-103mph. His 60fts were like 2.4 everytime.

He had a problem with his tires or something.. they were worn as ****. When he'd shift into 2nd gear his car would fishtail.. He said he had to let off the throttle to keep from losing control. He was dissapointed cause he wanted to see 13's at least.. but he felt a little better cause their were two stock ellis's running the exact same times as him

The STi cut a 1.8 60ft when he ran against my friend.. I forget what the trap speed was. That car was so ****ing awesome.

I heart the STi.. it was so sweet. BBS wheels, massive brembos, sparco seats.. everything about this car was freakin amazing. I bet it could run faster.. the guy driving the car said he didnt own it and I heard he was testing it for a magazine. I think the STi could hit lower 13's.. possibly even high 12's stock"

Just so there isn't any more confusion about gas. There is no law in California that says you can't have anything better than 91 octane. You can buy 112 octane if you got the roll for it.

Also, the EVO gained 10 hp probably because it pulled a lot of timing when running on low octane "premium fue", but I am not sure if the STI would see similar gains. You can probably get a better idea if you ask WRX owners to see if 93 vs 91 octane makes much of a differenec.

13.3's would be a little disappointing to everyone wouldn't it? Not that 13.3's are bad times...it just seems the Sti would run quicker. Only reason I'm thinking that way is because the Evo runs 13.1-13.4 when you cut a decent 1.8 60' like they said the Sti was cutting. SCC got 13.34 and backed it up imm. with a 13.5....we all know about the 13.18-13.3's the good Evo drivers are turning stock.
IMO, the Sti should run a 13.0 or so with a good driver. I truley think the Sti is a little heavier though. Kinda strange they listed it EXACTLY the same weight as the Evo (even though that weight is without radio, etc.). BTW, at the track someone weighed their Evo and said it was under 3200lbs...who knows though. I'll weigh mine when I make it to the track.

It's nice having 94 octane at the pumps for the same price as other premium gases here in the midwest...for $1.60 gallon

i like how you quote the one time only one guy has been able to pull off so far. And he had 19 years of driving exp at the drag strip.
There are very few guys running that fast in their evos. Most are running 13.5 to 13.8 on adverage. And none of those guys are running on cali gas that are running as low as the sti. i think a decent driver with good gas could get easily into the 12's.

time will tell. Once the sti comes out and we all see just how fast it can be.

Hmm..I thought I quoted several times?? Maybe I read my post wrong..
Nope...I quoted SCC time of 13.34 and 13.5 along with the 13.1. Notice I said the Evo runs 13.1-13.4 with a decent 60' time. Did I not say that? I didn't say "yeh, the Evo runs 13.1 no matter what all day long"
Geez...settle down. I wasn't bashing the Sti

The problem with quoting them is that they have a steriod Evo. That sucker is a "press ringer" with its 240 at the wheels.....whatever. It worries me that every mag got a ringer evo and that the sti vs. evo comparos won't be accurate. Then again i could care less cause my sti isn't gonna be stock that long anyways. Peace!!
