What was the rally arcade game that featured a Celica? I friggin loved that game. I think it was around in the mid 90s.

I like more competition. More choices. More everything. Bring it.

The reason why their is so much hate. Is because people think their car is the best in the world not matter what, and soon as you tell them their car in not special anymore they cry. I think Toyota getting the STI platform is a very great option! They look to be making the STI better and into a coupe! This looks like the hatchback haters out their will have a new option. Any who when you think Toyota you can think of a good quality car. Their is a reason why they are kicking A$$ is sales!

If ford would have brought the Cosworth to the states they would own the market today instead of the STI and evo.

Come on dude. Do you really think that a major manufacturer asks the techs that work in their dealerships what engine they want to work on when they design a new car? No, they try to manufacture what the customer wants, and what they can make money selling.

Considering Nissan techs can't get certified to work on nissan hybrids (with the powertrain sourced from toyota) I agree 100%
As a Toyota tech, I think that if we can handle previas, we can handle subaru engines.

yeah actually they do ask techs and customers, its called test groups. we have reps that come down and see what we are doing and whats wrong. we give them opinons and they take it to headquarters. do they always listen? obviously no, but i really dont think they will put a ej25 in a toyota, toyota isnt going to make a mistake and put a non toyota motor in its cars anymore, they already made that mistake and they dont make that car anymore, and im talking about the celica.

and i dont think toyota will come out with a new celica and or supra. id be suprised if htey did because if they did sell a celica, it would take away sales from scion and vice versa. the supra? if they wanted to come out with one, they would have 10 years ago. toyota is going in a totally different direction then sports cars guys.

and im not saying i wont work on it, i love subarus. im a expert certified toyota tech, i love toyota and i drive a sti. but you get the 5 master techs at my dealer to work on a subaru engine and they swear up and down the shop. if they do put a subaru engine in ill be the first to admit my mistake. but until that happens, im willing to bed it wont happen again, they wont make the yamaha mistake like they did before.

I did not search iwsti to see if this was already posted but saw this on nasioc:

New Toyota / Subaru Sports Car Officially Announced

New Toyota / Subaru Sports Car Officially Announced

Quote:
The Toyota board announced in July 2007 that they had created a special committee dedicated to creating interesting cars. Of course a committee with that target in mind is bound to spark rumors of all kinds, and today word comes from Toyota that an interesting car is on its way.
Toyota (or Subaru) mentions no specifics in the press release except that it will be based on an entirely new platform, powered by Subaru's horizontally-opposed boxer engine with rear-wheel-drive and should arrive in dealerships by the end of 2011.
The new compact sports car will be branded as both a Toyota and a Subaru and will be built in Subaru's yet-to-be-built Gunma manufacturing plant. In return for building Toyota's 'fun to drive' compact sports car, Subaru will receive a small car on OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) basis from Toyota and a minicar (sub-660cc engine) on OEM basis from Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota.
Its a win-win-win situation for all three companies involved. Toyota finally returns to a market which has not been there strong point with a car built by performance specialists, Subaru gets to focus on doing what they do best and don't have to worry about the small and mini car segments without pulling out while Daihatsu can increase production significantly and improve efficiency.
Subaru will build a new plant in the Gunma Prefecture in Japan where the new compact sports car will be built, the current Gunma Main Plant will focus on the OEM vehicles. Daihatsu will supply Subaru with 6,000 Coo cars annually.
What the new sports car will be called is not yet known, so plenty of room for speculation there. Will Toyota bring a futuristic styled car like the FT-HS Concept to the market or will they too go down memory lane and return by resurrecting the AE86, Celica or Supra nameplate? Same goes for Subaru, they too have classic nameplate that could make a return like the Leone (Subari GL or L Series). There is no denying that retro styled cars are a big business, just look at the MINI, Fiat 500 and the American muscle cars.

It's true that Subaru and Toyota are working together however I find it hard to believe that this will happen until there is more substantial evidence.

That is great news!!. I have a 97 toyota celica with 189,000 miles and 07 STI. I love my 97 celica. I am planning on getting the GT4 turbo engine. this cars are really good. To be honest I don't think any STI engine will last that long.
