Default WRX in Import Tuner MAG

Did anyone Happen to see the Dec 2007 Import Tuner Mag. In the Power Pages section they did three mods on a 2006 WRX. They added a K&N intake, Tanabe Concept G Blue Turbo-Back Exhaust system, and a XS Engineering WRX Reflash/VF34 turbo. It gained 99.4 HP and 68.2 TQ. I was impressed that the Exhaust gave a max 25 Hp gain. Is that normal for an Exhaust system? I'm thinking about getting the Tanabe system. Let me know what you think.

I wouldn't trust their results. Just remember that these "builds" and "test" are done to sell parts to you. So they are going to try to display the parts in the best light possible.

On turbo cars that is totally normal.

Turbo cars are notorious for responding well to exhaust modifications.

Just look at what stage 2 gets the STi. All that is is a TBE and a flash.

Yep, a 3" TBE and a stage 2 flash will net you approx 50whp and 70-80wtq. Ride in a stage 2 car vs stock and its an amazing difference.

Just to clarify for a newbie STi owner like myself, by Stage 2 do you mean Cobb Stage 2 (turbo-back exhaust and AccessPort)?

If that's correct, $1,875 on CobbTuning.com ain't too bad for those gains. I suppose the AccessPort would have to be tuned by a pro.

Stage 2 just means a turboback exhaust and a reflash for the ecu. IMO the cobb accessport is the best and easiest to work with. It will also work with any combo of a downpipe and catback exhaust.

stage 2 does mean turboback and reflash. You dont need to spend that much $$ to get there though. Your average TBE set up will run you approximately 400 to 600 used ( more if new of course) plus a reflash from TDC tuning which they charge 150 (you need an AP if you dont already have one) to send it via email. I spent 300 on my SPT catback and 150 on a new ERZ DP. the reflash was 150.

In regards to the car in the mag im pretty sure they ran it on aDynojet to show the inflated numbers.
