Not really. It would be great if you ported your turbo a bit (highly recomended). I re-measured the TurboXS pipe. 1.795" ID at oth ends. No biggie with the stock header being a bit smaller then the pipe. The gases will not see a ledge,..they'll just drop off one a bit. And of course you can spend 10 min in there porting it out to match. Your turbo will likely be 1.6" or so ID. Only takes a few minutes with a carbide bit to open that up by .200". Being as you'll have the headers off to do the UP anyway,..you might as well port them. Nice improvement in power and spool. You'd want to open up the stock turbos' wastegate a bit to make sure you don't have boost creep issues in the future,....then port-match the turbine inlet and smooth it out nicely,...and while you have it off,..you open up the compressor exhaust like so Stock compressor outlet on an FP 20-G on the right (2.4" inlet variety),...my port job on lthe one on the left (3" inlet). Both exits looked the same when I started. ![]() I didn't like the idea of the air dropping off a big step right before the IC elbow. Only takes a 10 minutes to do. Too bad it's just an "S". The "S2" was a hot ship (3 liter slant 4),..and the turbo,.....well you know how we all feel about turbos. Toss a chip-set in an '86 - '89 turbo and it gains 60 wheel hp. Add a hot wire mass air flow sensor and a test pipe and you're at another 60 ish. From 217 to 335 ish,..and in a 2,930 lb car. I did the test pipe and chipset for my friend in his 30,000 mile '88 turbo. It had dry-rotted 245 width H rated touring tires on it. I did 2 launches with a G-Tech pro. Smoked 'em one time,...got a 4.8 sec 0-60 the next. The wheels were staggered ****s though. I suspect that if it had a fresh set of 235 / 265 ZR rated tires on it like it should have,..and I had a few more practice launches,..it would have easilly pulled a 4.3 - 4.5 sec 0-60. You can get pretty nice 50,000 mile examples in the low teens. Add $2,000 in mods, and you have a car that competes with any modded sport compact on the street. And it's solid as a brick,...and it's a Porsche. Last edited by DuckStu; 07-25-2008 at 04:03 PM. | |
