IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (11) | Yeah, I'm not a huge fan either... but I gotta give credit to any car that can spank most, if not all of the cars on this board on the track. There's lots of speculation as to whether this thing could knock down the record that the ZR-1 just set on the Nurburgring... so yeah, it's pretty quick - too bad Dodge won't take it to take it to Germany. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (6) | The problem with the Viper has always been the ability to properly mate power to ground. They can't usually even do it going straight (read: burnouts). The GT racing series cars were infamous for two snaps: snap oversteer and snapped driveshafts. It's an engine with wheels. The new ACR, well, maybe they finally fixed those things. But it's too little too late IMO. And I know why they won't take it to Germany. They can't afford it. |

It probably wouldn't do near as well as the magazine readers now speculate,....so going there could only hurt it's rep. I've been on track with a couple Viper GTS's,...and all were dramatically slower than the 177 hp 1994 BMW 325is I had at the time (with orrigional 150,000 mile suspension and R comps). We're talking me at my first ever track day driving school lapping a Viper GTS every 8 laps at Waterford hills. Real sad. I almpost bought a 1998 Red GTS the week before I bought the STI. Guy selling it had bought it to road-course,..as did 2 of his friends. One by one he watched them snap oversteer their cars into tire barriers. Hoods were $12,000 a crack,...now more like $15,000. (I paid 20K even for my STI). He bought a Vette and started racing SCCA. He wa leading the championchip heading into the runofs at Mid Ohio when I spoke to him in late July 2006. So not a total newb. So maybe with a top professional driver and a team to make setup tweaks they're fast,...but with a really good amature driver they are very slow relative to cars such as a Miata, STI, BMW, etc. But no doubt tht is a very hot looking car. In Lambo territory even.

So I went to a BBQ yesterday at around 3 and left around 9 and when I start the car and drive off, my boost leak was present again, but only for one boost, every time after that, I think it was holding fine. So thats the theory now, car has to be hot, but cooled down a bit. Just like at the track where I have the issue. Metal is hot, hose or something cools down to create gap till boost warms it up again. or something...

I saw 2 guys out a few weeks back in what was damn-near the hardest storm we've seen this year and just thought, "yeah, they're effing crazy!" I can definitely respect the hobby though... Those dudes were just wayyy more dedicated than I would be!
