Ok, so I'm chasing this evo on to the highway. I had just left the novi meet so the car wasn't really up to temp. When I floored it, the car was only boosting to indicated 16psi (vs ~21-22psi usually) and was making and unusual whistling noise. After a few (4-5) throttle applications of boosting, the boost was reading right and the whistling was gone. It seems I have a boost leak, but only when something is cold. anyone have a suggestion as to what it might be? I think this started happening at the last track day where the boost gauge T popped off, but those are zip tied now and I don't think they are leaking (unless the zips aren't tight enough).

Ugh, such a pain in the ass to track down... Obviously start with any parts that have been removed, modified or altered in some way. While it would take some luck, you may want to pop the hood in the morning and see if you can't hear it (doubtful) or even go to work with a spray bottle with a few drops of Dawn in it (provided someone's able to give the throttle some action for you). If neither of these options yield results build yourself a test setup and run some pressure through the circuit... remember to disconnect the PCV lines or take off your oil cap!

I actually just thought of "clogged injector" but I think that boost is referenced to throttle position and would not react to that...

The weird and annoying part is that it goes away in short order, but I think I can eliminate things like throttle and BPV gaskets as those won't expand like a rubber hose would. I might remove the T junction and disconnect the boost sensor line, and replace the hose with the original to see if that helps. Might wait for the weekend to do that however.

I don't know if a metal T would crack under simple manifold pressure, but maybe the heat from the track day got to it.

I would be hugely surprised if either of those things were able to cause a crack...

Considering that I'm running a brass t-fitting, I would be as well. The hose is the PoF in that equation, and if IT isn't cracked, split, etc., the problem is elsewhere.

Either way, I'd be surprised if that's where the failure is at. Unless additional hose was used that wasn't made for such purpose the odds of failure are slim.

Scott: Where did the "whistling" sound seem to be coming from...?

Thoughts?

Picture the car in black and the wheels in silver minus the red stripe. They're the same size as stock, but with a miniscule difference in offset and a few pounds lighter each (these are ~18 lbs). More than likely I'd get BMW center caps as well...
