Focus? Determination? I remember what I was thinking at that moment:

Goddamn it, I'm going to get sunburned like Hell today.

And I did.

Very cool pics, Donnie.

Apparently the owner of that M3 allowed Clayton to do a full session behind the wheel after he let the guy take his 135i out for a bit. Did you get to watch him making laps in it??

As far as I know, Clayton never went out on the track, nor did the 135i, unless it was after we left (but Clayton had left already by then)

His car never hit the track - he let the owner of the M3 tool around off the track in it and in exchange the guy let him do a full session in the M3.

I finally got around to cleaning up the car and shoot some pics.

Things to note:
  1. You can click on any of the shots for a larger version.
  2. All I had to edit these was Windows Photo Gallery.
  3. It took me 15+ hours to prep, polish and protect the paint to get it to shine like this.
  4. It poured rain on the car after having it like this for only 12 hours.
  5. I LOVE THIS CAR!

Looks nice J, can't wait to see it in person. There are only a few times where a black car will not have any/many swirl marks in the paint, and that would be when it is new.

Are the exhaust tips painted black?

Thanks, man! Yeah, the paint STILL isn't perfect; however, I got it as good as I could... The next step is to pay a professional to finish taking any imperfections out of it. I'm hoping to have the ambition to keep the paint up over time, but we all know how hard it is to find the time necessary to put a day (or more) in to polishing!

The tips are black chrome. They're really slick looking. Only the one on the right is actually functional ALL the time. There's a diverter valve on a flapper that only opens up over 3000 rpm, but I modified it today so that it's open all the time. It's good for a few more decibels and definitely makes the car sound meaner at idle.

I have video of it in front of me,...well, for a couple laps at least LOL. Anyone have a program that will capture video into a computer and convert it to Divx?

It was during the last session before I left,...and my wastegate actuator had kicked the bucket,....so I was at 0 psi of boost until about 5,000 rpm,..then it started to spool up a tad to about 8 psi by redline. (Wastegate door stuck 1/2 way open).

So it took me an entire lap to pass the M3 (after we both got around 2 Miatas). The M3 did really well in the turns,..but didn't seem to have much power. Also, the driver wasn't jumping on the brakes real hard. I saw him looking at them after the session. I suspect he was babying them a bit so as not to mess them up. I was probably putting down 180 wheel hp at 5 psi,..and didn't have any problems staying with him in the straights.

I timed the M3 in the session right before that,..the one before the green and blue groups got combined. He was running 1:36 and 1:37 in traffic,...and 1:31 in the clear. For comparison,..Chris and Scott were running 1:26 and 1:27 in traffic and 1:25 in the clear. (Basically 6 sec a lap faster than the M3. Not sure what the M3 drivers' experience was,...but he was in the Green group,..which is the Competition License group.

Acording to Top Gear lap times,..it should only be 1.5 sec slower than a stock STI. Of course our cars aren;t quite stock. The Stig's lap times - Top Gear on BBC Two - Top Gear

I had a spare actuator at home,..so I replaced that Sunday morning. At that time I also found that a nut was missing of the turbo-DP connection,..and another entire stud/nut combo. WTF?

Fixed those 2 things,..changed the oil,..aligned the car,...swapped the tires, wheels and brakes,...washed it, reflashed the ECU. All better now (and quieter,..YAY)

Anyone want some badass autocross tires? Nearly slick REO1R in 245/45/17. When they're almost gone they're the thing to have for autocross. I'd get most of a lapping day out of them,..but they'd be good for 4-5 autocrosses easy. 140 treadwear is the minimum for street tire class,..and 245 is the max width for all-wheel drive turbo cars. $40 set of 4.
