HOnestly the install is pretty straight forward with the exception of getting the rollpin out. That part can be a PITA. People will disagree with me, but don't even bother putting the rear stay on. It does almost nothing for you and is easy to strip when installing.

Jackstands are your best bet if you can't get a lift; ramps will get the front or rear end in the air, but since you have to work in the middle of the car, you need more space in the middle...and ramps will make it very tight in the middle.

Dude...basically EVERYONE will disagree with you You were an impatient m'er f'er and you crossthreaded the damn thing. If you take your time and are careful, it goes in just fine. It's a harder mount, which means it WILL stiffen things up, despite how negligible the amount might be.

And "almost nothing" isn't enough for me not to install it...on the contrary, it means I'd be missing that "almost nothing" from my ultimate shifter bundle (I know deep down it bothers you, and therefore you're trying to get someone else to leave off the rear stay in the hopes of making yourself feel better )

Muff has the same aftermarket setup I do, except he has the OEM rear stay bushing (due to complications during his install). He also has the Cobb SS, like me, but he might have the factory shifter and not the STi linkage (I can't remember).

I had the factory ss and like nan said we have an identical setup with the exception of the rear stay.

I'd be willing to bet any person on this board a new FP20g that if they drove both our cars they'd never know which one had the rear stay, it's that worthless. I think the $30 could be better spent on a couple cases of beer.

ANd you know 90% of the people who would disagree with me about the rear bushing are the TiC leghumpers...or annoying indians who just try to make me mad.

I have the STi linkage and rear stay, on top of your setup.

Sure, but I know, and you know, and your shifter knows it's not quite up to par compared to mine

Factory linkage is what is put on the car in Gunma, Japan.

Mine was the dealer installed STi short-throw linkage. Yes, there IS a difference Which do you have?

That's what I thought you were talking about...you must have skipped over my earlier post:

Chicago meets (if it is not meet related, go to CHICAGO CHAT in OT)

edit: ok, so I said 'factory' short shifter, sorry. The 'dealer installed STi' short shifter.

I read that (I even quoted it) - you keep calling it factory ss - most people say "factory ss" for the stock linkage, not the STi aftermarket ($300) one.

It all depends on what day you decide to do this - I won't mind helping out at all. I have yet to install my front, rear stay, and linkage bushings, but I also vote for Nan to give us some guidance on this ...
