awd is definitely not a necessity, I'm just partial to it. the compromise with the vette is no back seats, and it's expensive. I'm headed to the chevrolet dealer tomorrow to see how i fit inside a new vette, I didnt even come close to fitting inside a c5 z06. I rode in a c5 z06 with a procharger a few weeks ago, and was seriously impressed, however my knees were touching the dash with the seat all the way back. it was bone stock except a catback and procharger, 520whp on 93 octane. the new ls3 makes considerably more power and is more refined. we'll see how it goes.

I sold my Sti and got an '06 C6 Z51. Z51 package makes it considerably better handling, comes with shorter end gear ratio (3.42; same as C5 Z06), and man, we also have a C5 Z06, and this one is soooo much more comfy! Not that I would mind comfort too much, but the incredibly effortless acceleration of this 6-liter V8 coupled with incredible comfort and quiet makes me regret for waiting so long to switch to a Vette.

The new LS3 engine is pretty sweet, but remember, instead of paying all that money for the brand new, you might just get an LS2 ('05 / '06), save about $15K, and later buy headers to match LS3 power levels. Heck, you can even buy LS3's heads (GM does not rape you in parts, trust me!) and make it almost same as LS3 (90% of LS3's power advantage comes from the new L92 cylinder heads it comes with).

Corvette provides an incredible base to us (my car is rated at 3176 lbs). You can literally drive this car very hard, and replace everything for very cheap. Guess that I don't know how to use stick, or my girlfriend went out for a ride and screwed up the clutch. NO PROBLEM! The brand new Z06's clutch INCLUDING flywheel, which fits ALL other Corvettes is $350! YES, the clutch which is factory-made to withstand 470lb.ft torque is just $350! Try that with an STi.

I have the Z51 package, and it comes with cross-drilled upgraded brakes. I checked GM Parts House, and guess what, OEM replacement is ONLY $73! Try that with an STi.. Ok, guess that you broke your transmission. There is a place in Texas cold T56RebuildRebuilds.com, which is, yes, specialized in Corvette and all such F-body/muscle cars' transmissions. You send your transmission, and they rebuild it for you for $700 with new synchros, etc., and when it gets back, it is ready for 700+whp with 1-year GUARANTEE. How can you beat that?

Corvette might look expensive in the beginning, but I am pretty sure it is cheaper than any import on the streets. Not to mention you do 30 MPG on the highway, at 6th gear, doing 1100 RPM You just can't push the imports hard and evade paying expensive maintenance bills. I spent so much money on my STi, which I now realize was not really necessary Oh well, I learned my lesson.

I will track my Corvette as soon as the season opens here in Seattle, with no worries for engine granading, rotors having to be replaced with $300 replacement parts, or something overheating and blowing on me

^ thank you very much for your feedback. I realize the ls2 is a great platform, might have to consider it. i really like owning a new car, and the ls3 is pretty impressive. i definitely want the z51 package, but the biggest deciding factor will be how well I fit in the drivers seat. i do not fit in a c5 z06, at least not comfortaly. I am headed to the dealer tomorrow to give it a try. I'm also researching used 07 z51's, so far i have found one with 3,400 miles 41k.

a newer corvette would be nice, i mean im not a big american car guy, but id take a new ford shelby gt500, i saw one at the local track a couple months ago, 1/8th mile, he ran a crappy time but pretty much did a burnout down the whole track. what do u think about those?

n.p., and good luck with your search! I personally would NOT buy '05, since their steering wheel is plain ugly and too big. Seats of 2LT and up are more configurable with adjustable bolster and bucket support. You should definitely try those seats, and when you do, take your time to adjust it for your taste; who knows you might fit this time

Whenever I buy a new car, I start worrying about the paint each time I drive. But well, I also love the fact that I would be braking in, I would be making it dirty, and it would be me who abused it, if it would be abused at all

GT500 looks nice, sounds nice, goes straight nice, but it is 4000 pounds. No matter what, even if you change that live rear axle to an independant one, it will never be a sports car. If it is OK for you, go ahead, but I would personally buy a Corvette. After all, unlike Mustang's, all those air inlet ducts for brakes, etc. in Corvette are real, and it doesn't need a supercharger

well it all depends on what he wants to build, drag car, circuit, auto x or daily driver. id never buy a mustang, but if i did, id built it to be a drag car. a solid axle will ALWAYS be stronger then a independent.

hey and if a corvette didnt need a supercharger, gm wouldnt build a zr1 man.

thanks for the ideas guys. as much as i love the gt500/mustangs, it's just too heavy/sloppy of a car. besides, i dont come anywhere close to fitting in those cars. I tried to sit in an 04 cobra last weekend and it was a joke. I love cobras, just dont fit in the seat.

I'm now actually looking at low mileage 06-07 c6's with z51 package. I'm finding them around 37-41k, whereas a brand new 08 is going to be 49k invoice with the equipment I want. I am DEFINITELY going to procharge a vette is if I buy one.

as far as what i want out of the next car.....I simply want a "trouble free" 550-600whp car on pump gas that I dont have to open the motor or tranny, ever. HAHA! the c6 fits that bill with a procharger. I want to occasionaly drag race the car, maybe do a road course, but most importantly sit in my garage and be ready everytime i want to go for a drive.

first, i have to sell my sti. I am supposed to receive a wire transfer payment on tuesday. if it doesnt sell, no big deal, although the new owner seemed pretty convincing that he is ready to buy the car asap. well see...... I took her for a nice cruise today, simply ridiculous on pump gas. race gas or meth injection would be deadly/dangerous. I broke all 4 tires loose in 3rd gear today getting on the hwy, just insane.

First Off I'm going to say you gotta be pretty damn tall I'm 6 Ft and i was able to fit into a Zo6 no problem. the only thing i have to say about the corvette is it wasn't a very comfortable car to me not something i could drive around for more then an hour before wanting to get out. It defiantly doesn't come close to numbers of the stock corvette but id suggest a 350Z I took my friends 350 for a test drive and loved it but thats just my opinion

I'm 6'6, dont fit very well into most cars. although I am perfectly comfortable in an sti. I drove a c5 z06 and my knees were touching the dash, actually had to move the keys out of the way because they were between my right knee and the dash.

I sat in a c6 auto, and a c6 z06 but didnt drive them. I'm going to stop by the chevy dealer today on my way home from work to drive a new c6. we'll see...

as far as a 350z goes, just not enough balls without having to rebuild the motor. they look great, but the stock motor wont hold anything over 400whp. I gotta have 500whp+ on a stocker, so far the vette is the leading candidate. if i dont fit, than I'll probably go with an 08 sti.

FTW. IMO (if you care at all ), Vette's have a bit of a stigma that goes along with them. From your posts, you just don't seem like a Vette kind of guy.

Anyway, I had fun! Maybe next time I launch teh piss out of her! I have vids uploading to youtube, will post them asap.
Dam for pump gas thats a great MPH with a ****ty 60ft lol. Your car is just WOW
