| Amateur STI Driver | Just got mine in Hilo, Hawaii. Subaru is detailing the car for me over the weekend so i get to pick it up on Monday afternoon, at which point I hand them over the keys to my Mazdaspeed (trade-in). Hooray! | Amateur STI Driver | Quick question about the break in period: We're supposed to be gentle with the car for the first 1k miles, but the dealer was taking the car to 5k when taking me on the test drive. He was going 50ish on 15mph corners to demo the handling. I asked about the break-in but he said that you just need to stay away from the redline and be sure not to hold high rpms for extended periods during th break-in period. I bought the car taking his (the sales rep) word on the break-in. Is he correct, or do I have an abused engine now? The car has 89 miles on it, so I can only assume that the car has been test driven similarly for those miles. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (2) | Technically, from what people/manual states, you are not suppose to go over 4K for the first 1K miles. A lot of people are posting that it is very hard and sometimes go over that w/o any problems. When mine comes in, I am not going over 4K. Also, not sure if you are aware of this, but you can set the odomotor to beep at what ever RPM you choose. That way you can focus on driving versus what your RPM's are at. Just a thought. |
