IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (14) | Update As promised here is my review of ACPT's carbon fiber driveshaft After two hundred miles of driving, this driveshaft is second most noticeable mod under a grand. Only outdone by the TurninConcpet's SuperShifterSet. Anyways the driveshaft is a one piece unit that replaces the heavier OEM piece, I did not have a chance to weight this since we did the install at a friend's garage but it is quite a bit lighter. I'm sure more info could be found on two other massive driveshaft threads. The driveshaft sheds weight on the drivetrain, but it is very different than getting a lightened flywheel because weight is lost on the tranny side instead of the engine side. So revving in neutral is still the same, but once you are in a gear it noticeable. Lower gears is not that big of a change, but now 5th gear pulls similar to 4th, so no need to downshift when passing on highway. Acceleration is increased since the car can supply power to the wheels in a shorter amount of time. Shifts are noticeably smoother, especially during WOT, I imagine the carbonfiber property to be a superior shock absorber. The overall feel is great, however with the price tag of $1100, it should not be one of the first things people should look into in terms of performance due to its high dollar to power ratio. One can think of it as a luxury item that makes driving that much more enjoyable. Pros: -better acceleration -higher agility -smoother shifts -more enjoyable driving experience, subjectively of course Cons: -Price -slight vibration only @ 3100rpm in 6th If you guys want more details, feel free to ask. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (14) | vibration is very minimal, only occurs at 3100rpm in 6th, as long as you are either below or above that rpm, it's all good. I believe it could be resonance frequency and not something out of balance. With all the noise the car makes, it is difficult to detect sound changes that's not louder than the turbo or exhaust and tranny whine. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (14) | Project Plan I have decided I will take on a semi-extensive build to complete the car power wise plus a few suspension pieces. I collected so many parts I felt it was becoming an unhealthy addiction so the purpose of this post is to alleviate that sense of guilt ![]() Parts I have ready to be installed: 1. Perrin 35r kit 2. Perrin FMIC 3. DC Sport header 4. RCE camber plates 5. Ohlin fixed Perch 6. RCE Yellows 7. Ultimate Racing intake 8. Cobb Piston shortblock 9. APS 3.5" 10. purchased a set of EVO IX Recaros, on the way 11. Still need a full gasket kit plus water pump, oil pump and timing belt 12. dump tube to be made for 44mm wastegate Quite of bit of work is ahead of me to complete this project. First of all is the Perrin intercooler piping goes counterclockwise, so turbo to intercooler piping is custom which I already have. Also need one piece of intercooler piping made to go into the throttle body on the cold side using existing piping that originally goes from intercooler to turbo, plus a BOV flange to be welded. Also looking to fabricate a 3.5" shorty downpipe to mate onto my APS R5 to compete a true 3.5" turbo-back. Not sure how well this is going to work but I've found couple of adpaters from ATPturbo. First ist the 4bolt 2.5" T31 flange to 3" Vband adapter, then a 3"vband adapter flares into a 4.0" piping, so that needs to be cut where the diamter is 3.5", add a 90 degree bend, lastly a flange needs to be cut from the original cast iron shorty downpipe and welded. Couple of questions, 1. I've been looking at the Process West Oil cooler, it does NOT have a thermostat but I live in Georgia so still contemplating if this is a good buy. If I do buy, is it possible to run a oil temperature sensor into the same sandwich adapter? 2. exhaust works seems be expensive and tedious, parts along will be around $200, not sure if the bottle beck of 3" downpipe is worth the trouble to eliminate. Of course I've sent an email to APS, no response for 48hours. 3. What is a good BOV that can be recirculated? I've looked at the Ultimate Racing's intake for their rotated kit and I do not see place that has ports for recirculated air to re-enter, perhaps I'll just run a Tial 50mm, suggestions? People make a big deal out of it...so ya 4. What's a good clutch, I plan to run produce somewhere close to 480lb/ft of torque when everything is aid and done 5. anything I might need?, inputs welcome The main attack plan is to get new shortblock, header, turbo installed, tow the car to a shop to have intercooler piping and exhaust and dump tube made. Then tow it back to have everything buttoned up. Looking back at this, that is a butt load of work. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | I like the exedy twin plate. if you can handle the noise, the clutch should treat you ok once you know the "quirks" of it. ![]() I'd like to see you run a thermostat with your oil cooler if it's a DD. There IS such thing as too cold of oil. OIl NEEDS to be warm for a happy motor. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | ATS\Carbonetic Twinplate with the 1100kg pressure plate, it drives better than stock and will easily hold that power. My brothers car has the 1100 PP and mine has the 1300pp the 1100 is much nicer to daily drive. Matt |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Nice write up on the drive shaft. Not that i'm planning on getting one anytime soon, but how was the install process for it? Did it take long, any special tools needed? Thanks, Mike. P.S. Take more pics of your car, it looks great! |
