Default WRXBrakes STi - Let the fun begin!!

Well - after 2 years of trying to make my WRX wagon an STi weak hubs and weird GC/GD suspension finally got the best of me.

So the wagon is going and the STi is here.

It's an 05 purchased from a forum member who did a host of mods too it mostly involving power. GT35R etc.

Right now I'm just trying to get a handle on how the damn thing works. Odds are though I will want to reduce power to get a more livable powerband for track use. It's either that or a built block and I ain't got that kind of jack. (yet!)

Car has S-techs on it so the first thing I did was call Myles and order up some T2's and tophats/camber plates.

Pics coming soon.

This is going to be a fun project.

Congrats Ken, i'm sure you'll love the car!

Do you mind saying what member you purchased the car from?

What are you thinking as far as brake setup goes?

I don't mind - he didn't post much though so I have to dig it up.

He's a local from Winston-Salem - off to college in an E36 M3.

Lots of thoughts on brakes

The goal is to 'invent' something. The Brembo's are pretty good -till you get serious. But then replacemnt cost becomes rapid and expensive.

Ideally I will devise a kit that utilizes rotors and pads that get the job done but don't cost as much. The prices for race pads and rotors in the STi shape is high for even me.

that sounds like something i would invest in. I think it would be great to have calipers that can accept pads with more material on them, so that a set will last longer.

Come on Ken, we need pics! You're right about the cost of tracking this car though, I go through a set of front pads in 2 weekends and they are a couple hundred bucks a set. I've also found that the Brembos can take some abuse but they really weren't meant to withstand a ton of heat. I had to replace my seals already and the car barely has 30k miles on it.

Back from the dead.....

After a zillion problems and the need to run my business - it RUNS again.

No more rotated kit w/ meth and weird stuff that i know little about

Just a simple 20G/TMIC. Running wastegate boost for now till I break the turbo in.

I stripped it pretty much - and the car no longer feels like a pig.
