You getting top hats? Or just the springs?

I really dont know much about whats required for the suspension when lowering the car yet. All i purchased was the RCE Yellows. havent installed them yet. Im not big on crazy adjustable suspensions and hard core stiff ride. I just like throwing some springs on and calling it a day. however with all the cars ive ever owned and modded i was always a big fan of getting performance shocks/struts to compliment the springs. but from what ive read the stock sti shocks hold up well with drop springs. and The RCE's also say they are designed to work with the stock STi shocks so for now Im just gonna use the stock shocks, until these blow or i get more money and buy some ohlines or something.

Maybe you can chime in on the whole Top hats topic. I'd like to hear what you think...

Thanx for posting btw.

EDIT: also what do you think about the bump stops issue. ive read that you should cut them or swap them for performance ones. Ive always cut a ring off of them on other cars. Just wondering if its necessary... Im worried about the car bottoming out on pavement if the bump stops arent long enough to stop the strut from compressing enough to scrap the bottom of my car.

you dont bottom out like that! you bottom out the suspension silly. That woulds be funny though, you bottom out and your whole entire under carraige gets scraped up!

top hats? you can get those. I didnt feel as if they were necessary and was happy with my setup w/o them. They will take some of that bobblehead away...

ohlins would be sweet, just super expensive....about 2k.

Caes your funny dude... I know what your saying about the bottoming out. but think about it this way...

If you look at the full range of motion of the suspension (lets just say only the front right now). Obviously at some point the shock is gonna reach a point where its about to max out its compression. this is where the Bump stop comes in, and acts as a padding so the shock housing doesnt bang against your uppers strut mount (i guess these are aka top hats. ) With that in mind, another important detail to remember is that the Whole car can only go down so much before making contact with the road. so what I was concerned with was whether or not the bump stops actually are designed to stop the suspension from compressing just enough to prevent the body of the car from making contact with the road. So by cutting them and making the shorter you actually allow the suspension to compress more and therfore allowing the car to go lower and possibly make contact with the road when hitting a dip in the road at high speed causing the suspension to compress to its maximum point.

Anyway, maybe im just over analyzing this whole thing but maybe not. I really dont know, and this was simply a concern and a logical guess. Hopefully someone who knows better than you and i both can chime in and clear up this mystery...

I have the RCE Yellow spring on my '07 with no other mods to the suspension. Stock everything else, and didnt modify the bump stops. I have not had a single problem yet and couldnt be happier and I drive this thing through Philly, so it does get tested. The ride height is definitely lower but its just about perfect. Hope that helps.

Ohlins are awesome but very expensive. I just can't justify paying $2,500+ for suspension when I will really only see the track no more than 3 times a year max.

Top hats are not needed but some people get them along with springs, I was just curious if you were getting them.

I am officially Stage I !!!!! I loaded up my cobb accessport today and flashed the latest version of Stage I 93 Oct. I must say that there definately is a nice improvement. Car feels alot more crisp and boost hits alot harder and feels like it comes on a little sooner. I havent really driven at high speed yet in 4th and 5th but i will bet its just as fun if not more fun than the lower gears. Springs go on next and I'll be good for a while til i save up some more mod cash.

Just wait a few days and you'll see a slight boost and much smoother response! The ECU will take time to learn the new map, so go out and drive!

If you thought this is fun, just wait til you go Stage 2!
