That counter weight is 1.0 lb. Weigh it... it's not 2-4 lbs! As for the driveshaft shield, I completely removed it to save about 4 lbs. Ad for the wiring brackets, I'm 2 steps ahead of you . The first thing I did when I got my car is remove all the interior panels and removed every single metal and plastic bracket holding the wiring in place that wasn't necessary... replaced all with zip ties... took me like a week but it saved about 30 lbs.Quote:

The wheels and wing and lack of a hoodscoop make it look different than stock... BUT... in terms of how light it is, it does not look stripped out at all... it still has all the seats and door panels and dash... and even the stock stereo... the rear center pass through was removed to save about 5.5 lbs but it is still a 4 seater! No, an aquaintance that has an 07 STI had his car corner weighted and PM'd me the specs. I just wanted to record it in my journal since our PM's are limited and I delete them after replying to them for the most part. I just thought posting the corner weights would be interesting for future reference. It's awesome. The only complaint I have is that the mating coupler thingy had 2 edges that were not the same as stock. Therefore, when using those half moon bolts that use the edges to prevent them from rotating, u will need to stick a flathead screwdriver in there to prevent the bolts from rotating. I felt that for such an expensive product, they would have been able to engineer that part a little better. I had some scraping in the tunnel, EVEN with the driveshaft protection plate off, but nothing major and nothing that affected the balance. This ad is not endorsed by this member. . Here is a pic of the front door without the panel. I don't have one of the rear door... or maybe I do but I can't currently find it on my computer. Last edited by AnorexicSTI; 03-18-2008 at 01:47 PM.

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | hey, decided to open up this thread and check up on the progress. i am really jealous of your unsprung weight reduction... i need to save up some money and do that as i love driving off-road. when you run out of things to do - tackle your electrical system, including sensors and plugs. for example: - remove the rear o2 sensor, and remove the bung from the downpipe - strip the loom and insulation off of the wiring - remove the wiring from the harness for the o2 sensor, tgv motors and sensors, pcv hose "sensor", DRL components, etc. - also, you can replace relays with transistors (that will also eliminate the ticking). - if you are not bugged by the smell of gas, remove all valve cover vent hoses. AFAIK you did not do those things. all that should add up to ~20# good luck, and keep us updated, Ashot |

2. What negatives are there for removing the rear O2 sensor and downpipe bung? Already did TGV although I should cut the wiring for that (left it on in case I want to go back to stock, but seriously, who am I kidding? lol... could save 0.25 to 0.5 lbs for the 4 wiring looms. 3. What does the PCV hose sensor do? Already did DRL. 4. Where do I source the transistors to replace the relays? Which relays should I start with? I can't see this saving much to be honest. Most of those relays weigh 0.25 lbs at the most. 5. Where are the valve cover vent hoses? Pics and I will do it since gas smell does not bug me! I honestly don't think 20 lbs is to be saved from the stuff u mentioned... more like 5 lbs. I removed the TGV's which saved about 2 lbs. Quote:
Where is an online source for Ti or Magnesium bolts? I've been wanting to do this for YEARS... dating back to my Honda days. This would probably be the next logical step.

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Just thought of this (but haven't thought it through). How about cutting out the floor of the trunk (you already removed your spare tire, right?) or at least part of it, and replacing it with a piece of carbon? I'm not sure if the trunk floor is structural or how important it might be for rear collision though. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
