I'm calling BS on that 2600 with driver... maybe without driver... but with driver, that is 2440 without driver... stock is 3263... they are claiming 800 lbs weight reduction? Ok, say I do the 500... which will be hard but possible... another 100 to complete gut the interior...maybe another 100 with CF doors... what's left? Start drilling holes in the chassis like swiss cheese? lol

I cant back up their claim as thats what it was, their claim.

The car was gutted to the point of being almost flimsy. Doors were made up only of the skin, no windows etc. Literally everything was removed or reduced to its most minimally needed parts. They did have a full cage which must weigh at least 100# on its own. Remember, this was a commited race car that arived in a double stacker semi and had a full pit crew.

Again that was just their claim but they also said they only had 300whp yet were running nearly 28lbs of boost and a huge TMIC. I have 300whp with about 20 psi and mostly stock. An extra 8lbs has to be worth something, no?

Just installed my brakeman rotors to save another 20 lbs.

I weighed them at 12.75 lbs... stock is 22 lbs, but that is with material off... I've seen them weighed at 22.75 lbs which is about right.

Some people have said changing these rotors will provide gains on the order of going stage 1, but that is a GROSS exagerration. C'mon... Stage 1 usually improves hp to around 330 hp... or about 10%... sure, that is 10% peak and not all around... but still....

From a pure physics standpoint, I figured the rotors would be the equivalent of removing 80 lbs of static weight... since the 20 lbs of weight reduction is pretty much EVENLY DISTRIBUTED around the axis of rotation (use a factor of 4 when that is the case)... and my impressions are exactly that... felt about the same when I removed 75 lbs before... front and rear bumpers and the U-brace.... or roughly a 3% improvement from 0-7000 rpm at speeds where wind resistance is not a factor (about 100 km/h or less)... and of course the faster u go, the less difference it makes due to drag becoming predominant over weight. As a nice bonus, steering has become lighter, and of course the unsprung weight is greatly reduced, which should improve grip over bumps... I have not been able to evaluate that yet.

Because the weight distribution has been improved (removed weight from front), there is less mass to "turn" around a corner.. hence understeer is slightly reduced.. and I was able to confirm a noticeable improvement.

Also took out the dust shields to save 1 lb per corner... less unsprung weight and better cooling for the brakes.

I'd still like to hear how you dropped 300lbs already...I'm not doubting it necessarily but it is a bit hard to believe without an explanation.

Default Oct 31st update

Down to around 2920 lbs and counting... actually probably closer to 2910... 20 lbs in the rotors, 2 lbs in heat shields, 3.5 lbs in a fan, 6 lbs in brackets I found, another 4 lbs in that windshield washer fluid reservoir delete... 2 lbs in door handle brackets, 1/2 lb in sound deadener... so around 2920 sounds good. Will weigh again on th scale and provide a more detailed list soon.

You could lighten the exhaust a bit with a titainium catback. They have to be lighter than COBB's.

I'm going to have to research that... my car came with the COBB so I didn't want to waste it... I'm using it for now, I like the sound and fitment, and the Ti exhaust will be more a thing I do later... do you have specs on the Ti exhaust and can I get one as quiet as the COBB? I am happy with the sound and noise levels the COBB provides.

^^I don't have the specs but I have heard a few Ti catbacks and they were all loud (Invidia Ti). The ones I have seen have a very straight through design and are not for the faint of heart if you are catless. This might be an area to skip if don't want to go louder but others may be more informed about this subject.

My Helix Ti weighs 11.8 lbs, most ti exhaust will weigh around that much.

Don't if you have these but they will cetainly help your goals.

Lightweight under frame check out something like the Beatrush one.
JDM bumper beams save weight aswell.
If you want to save more trunk weight than the Spec C check out the Monster Sport CF trunk it weighs around 5 lbs according to vendors.

Keep up the good work and make a list of eveything you have done

Nice... how is the sound? Anybody have the weight of a COBB catback? I don't feel like pulling mine off just to weigh it and COBB doesn't provide a spec on their site.

No bumper beams = lighter than JDM

I will have to look into that Monster... do you have one? Where can I get a deal on one?

I have BM rotors and calipers. Yes, I saw a 9# loss per rotor and minimal loss with the caliper.

The discs are actually thicker and I believe that the weight savings is mainly in the hat/hub area which is less critical than the outer circumference. Great for unsprung/polar moment/overall weight etc but only minimal gain in rotating weight. Still a good mod tho.

Sorry for the late response. The Helix Ti is pretty loud. The stock exhaust is about 95bd, the cobb around 98db, but the helix is more like 110db(no resonator). As far as the Monster Sport trunk i don't have one yet simply because it cost about 1G. Some vendors here carry it but i would need to comfirm the weight on them. Good luck on your efforts...

No apologies... I finally took some pics and instead of making a list of weights that I will NEVER complete in 1 sitting, I decided to do it in bits... otherwise it will never get done!!

I'm at around 2895 lbs without driver now! Removed the AC and some rad support brackets to get me under 2900!!!!! Only have to remove my bodyweight in carweight and I'll be at my goal... I can see the finish line!!!
