Sorry for the OT, but could you give us a quick review of the mod? How do you like it? Better/faster engagment? Worth the time? thanks

U think that's crazy... I got 2 zip ties replacing one of the muffler holders (to save 1/2 lb).. I tried 1 at first, but every few days it would break... so I tried 2...and 1 month later, still going strong!

It feels different, but only SLIGHTLY faster engagement... it was worth the mod only because I saved 1.75 lbs... if u're gonna do it, do it like I did... replacing EVERYTHING with 1 line from MC to SC... with the other methods, u end up permanently changing the parts (set screw method) or still keeping some heavy parts (original method).

Just installed my WBR FMIC... so much lag and I lost power... not sure whether an ECUTek protune will fix it, whether I need to go Hydra and tune, or just go back to the stock TMIC.

Cutting out the bumper saved 2.25 lbs though! All that plastic added up!

I did not use the 4 lb WBR bumper beam... instead, I replaced the whole beam with a 0.25lb L bracket right in the middle of the core... beauty! I will eventually post a pic of this.. it was quite genius if I don't say so myself.

You have listed
"Cross member vibration dampener - 1 lb"

Are you referring to the dampeners circled in RED(rubber bolted onto rear differential x-member)?
or the ones circled in GREEN (rectangular blocks welded to x-member)

- I think the dampeners in RED only come in 2005+ STI's , my '04 doesn't have them. But I do think I have the ones in GREEN

Excellent thread
Awesome weight reduction!
One of these days I'll have do the same!

So you're saying that the plastic you cut out of the bumper weighed 2.25 lbs more than the IC and all the pipeing? Seems to me you would be adding the weight of the FMIC + pipe -TMIC+ plastic. If so and you still lost 2 1/4 lbs then that is some heavy duty plastic.

Actually, I originally used 4 zip ties and 2 bolts... but it only prevented the core from moving FORWARD under braking ... under acceleration, the core could still move BACK a bit... even though I had it bolted with 2 bolts at the bottom and wouldn't be going anywhere, it would "tilt" and may have changed the angle of the piping slightly... so I came up with the L bracket solution and bolted to the center pillar where the horn is located.

Sorry for the confusion... the FMIC assembly (all bolts, brackets, hoses, clamps, piping etc.) was 30.25 lbs without the bumper beam... 30.5 lbs with my L bracket... stock was ABOUT 15 lbs (after all bolts, hoses, brackets, clamps, etc.)... so I gained about 15-16 lbs.. but lost 2.25 lbs in plastic being trimmed out (foglight area, grill area, etc.)... so overall gain only about 13-14 lbs, which isn't that bad... I was able to counter this by moving my battery under the passenger seat for weight distribution... and if I get the PS out, even better...

Even smaller...it was a $2 part from Home Depot... it is steel... but only 1/4 lb... I was hoping to get it in aluminum but I needed it fast...

Wow, I haven't gotten to those yet! Those red ones look very removable! Probably 1 lb each... that would be a nice 2 lb savings right there.

The one I was talking about is actually under the transmission where that crossmember goes across... near the front jacking point... if u ever do a short shifter or shifter bushing install, u will see what I mean... it is only 1 lb...but completely unnecessary.

that x-member is from a MY05 according to the shop where I saw it. They're steel brackets with rubber dampeners (theyh look like stoppers)

The ones "behind" the x-member are difficult to see bcause they're sort of hidden and they're welded so they'd be a little difficult to extricate. They're solid metal blocks so they must be at least 1lb for both.
