IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Should be fine. I've read a bunch of posts on guys in -20*F weather turning over their built motors no problem - a lot of ugly piston slap, and ugly noises, but they were fine. That would suck like nothing else though. "How'd you blow your motor?" "Cold start in -40." This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Another update: 1/29/07 1 - APS R1 (3" TBE) is coming off and the APS R5 (angled 3.5" TBE) is going on at time of install. 2 - STI heads/cams are coming off, Cosworth Big Valve Cylinder heads and S2 cams are going on. ![]() 3 - Based on my emails with one of APS' engineers, I'm going to stick with the so-called restrictive 0.82A/R turbine housing. I'll run a lower boost level (anything up to 24PSI keeps the turbine back pressure happy at ~4 PSI greater than boost pressure, whereas anything beyond 24PSI sees the back pressure start to skyrocket). The 1.06A/R housing would likely ruin the street driveability of my car due to lag, lack of low end response, and broken axles and driveshafts. ![]() 4 - I bought a Koyo Race Rad off eBay for way cheaper than anything I've seen posted here. Should see it in a week.5 - I installed the Innovate LC-1 wideband w/ the Autometer dual gauge cluster bezel (did I post this already? seems like I have). The other pod will house the Aquamist DDS3 gauge. 6 - It's likely I'll be using an Autronic SM4 standalone ECU with the wiring and cam sensor method in prototype phase. 7 - April is looking like a realistic tune/install time. edit: Forgot to add some stuff lol. IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | ^I'm going to the R5 for functional purposes though, not for a bling angled cannister. The .82A/R turbine will cause a decent amount of backpressure, so going with practically a straight 3.5" exhaust should help reduce that a fair bit. The R1 is already loud enough... this is going to scream now, especially with the EWG dump lol. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | The backpressure the .82 housing that you are concerned with is pre-turbine housing. Not post turbine housing. While this 3.5" exhaust may help a little, I honestly believe it's less than what they say. anything above 2psi is what is considered restrictive. We start replacing catalytic convertors on stock systems above 2psi and WOT. FWIW. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
