![]() This day in age Matt - I'd just build your own block. I don't trust anyone... not Axis, not Cobb, not Cosworth, and especially not Crawford. I read very few good things and lots of horrible things. I'm trying to source out a blown motor as I type this so I can build it myself. BTW don't our cars look so much better with the 04/05 tails? I picked up a set and honestly don't think I'll ever go back.

![]() Yep, ARC off, stocker back on. The FS post will be up soon enough. Quote:
It seems to me Crawford has been around for a really long time (relatively speaking) in the Subaru world, and has sold a lot of blocks. With that much more volume, they're going to get a few good reviews and a lot of bad reviews - it's just the way people work. With all that said, my tuning/install shop (Rocket Rally) have been putting in Crawford motors for a long time, and have had very consistent, very good results. I'm not going to bring in a motor from any other company, have them install it, have something go wrong, and be trying to deal with the issues from up here. Not only that, Rocket Rally is 1000 miles from me. So, I'll buy the block from them, have them install it, and be worry free if something goes wrong. I'd way rather have my block swapped for a new one no questions asked, or have a failure taken care of out of their shop then try to deal with Crawford, Axis, Cosworth... whoever... directly. As far as building my own, I don't have the time, skills, or knowledge to do it myself unfortunately. I asked Rocket what it would cost to take my block and have them build it with their choice of forged parts, and they said it wasn't worth it as the parts and labour would exceed buying a block with everything already done. Wow, that was a rant. And yeah, 04/05 tails are way better. Chrome FTL. Cheers.

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | Well, I've been following this thread without comment for some time, and I have to say WOW! Amazing watching this thing from start to.... well, where it is now (there doesn't seem to be and end in sight)! Also, about the 04/05 tails, I agree they look great on the SWP but I've yet to see them on the UGM, like mine, however I long ago swapped out the 07's (yucky chrome) for the 06's which I think was a real improvement. Side note, JiveMasterT, have you any photos of your car with the 05 tails? I'd love to see what they look like on the UGM. Again, amazing job, this thing is a real monster! |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | I see what you're saying. Yeah my displeasure with Crawford wasn't that they sold some bad motors or bad pistons - but rather their response to the complaints that set me off. They have been highly respected for ages though and I've not heard anything bad about them recently so go for the gusto my friend I'm sure it will be fine. I was actually talking about building a motor myself. Then again I have most of the tools to do it and then I can do it however I want when I want and if I mess it up, well, it was my fault and I'll fix it Then again the only thing my car goes into a garage for is new tires. Maybe it's my NY mentality but I just don't trust any shops with anything. I've seen them beat on customer cars and stuff like that and I really don't want someone wailing on my $37k toy.If you have a shop you can trust and you're friendly with then it just makes sense to do what you're doing. I wasn't arguing with you but rather - subtly pointing out how awesome it is that you can do this without worry. BTW I need those RCE springs now haha. @07STILtdGo: Patrick's STi Limited "Project Stealth" Yes it's a crappy pic but I'll take more later once the car is cleaned up a bit. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Pat, I knew what you were saying and also knew that you weren't arguing or giving me a hard time It'd be great to build my motor with my own two hands, but I don't have the skill, tools, or know-how to do it properly. I could learn, and I'd probably be alright at it eventually, but I couldn't dedicate the time for it. And like you said about Crawford's customer service, that's why I'm happy that I'll only ever be dealing with Rocket. About finding a blown STI engine to work on - there's quite a few sad '07s on NASIOC I'm glad I got tuned when I did, that's for sure. Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | Good luck with everything man!! If i talked to pat personally before i bought my Axis block, i would of got a Crawford block myself as well. When i called in, their previous employee told me there will be no warranty and the pricing was off quite a bit. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | A couple updates - 1) Bought a set of Gold STI BBS wheels and RE070's... actually 5 of them ... locally for $600. These will be track wheels only so I'll likely get a 245 or 255 RE01R tire on them sooner or later. I've got a brand new set of RE070's from when I bought my car that I might use for the first few track days next summer.2) Bought a Innovate LC1 WB02 kit - I should see it Friday. 3) I also bought the Autometer instrument bezel dual gauge pod - I've seen some pretty average fitment pics, so hopefully it's not too bad. I need to mount the WB and the Aquamist DDS3 gauge so it'll either work with the Autometer bezel, or I'll have to do an A-pillar pod. 4, 5) I can't tell you guys number 4 and 5 yet I'll know more tomorrow, but let's just say I'll be pretty pumped if things work out. edit: 6) Forgot to add that the Crawford Air/Oil Separator I bought in a Group Buy on NASIOC showed up a few weeks ago. All part of the bigger plan Last edited by TheLimitedProject; 01-01-2008 at 10:35 PM. |

I came across it and was pretty happy when he hadn't sold them yet. He was desperate for the cash, and dropped his price $400 Anyway, the rims are not in the best shape. 2 of the 5 have a decent amount of curb rash, 2 are in pretty good shape (no curbage, just a few nicks), and one is mint. Doesn't matter though, as all these babies will see is the track. Quote:
