IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Alright......I believe my SMC Kit is set to start spraying Meth at like 10PSi or so. I get a 5 gallon tank of 100% Meth for only $17-$18 Dollars. Its about $3.25-$3.50 a gallon. And when you run 50/50 mix, you use less . Plus I have heard/read somewhere that with the use of the Distilled water, and Meth, it actually steam cleans " " your engine internals, removing carbon deposits and such. Which makes sense since when the distilled water sprays before the the throttle body with the meth it goes in and gets condensed into a steam in a way. The one gallon kit that SMC provides will last you 1 gas tank prob the first day......then after you get used to it.....and you slow her down a lil....usually 1-1 1/2 maybe 2....but see I never let it run low where the low light indicator would come on. SMC only charges about $90 to convert your 1-gallon tank with the pump to the 12L Spec-C Tank......they mount the pump on the 12L tank, and provide you with a Stainless Steel Braided Line that will run from the trunk to the intercooler.......TMIC OR FMIC . They also provide a longer wiring harness to connect to the controller (I mounted mine in the ash tray). Its safe to have a 50/50 mix of meth and distilled water in the car......I usually keep a small 1 gallon gas can thing I got from Pep Boys behind the passenger seat on the floor...it fits perfectly, and never tips over no matter how hard I drive. Thats incase I am somewhere and I run low....now with the 12L tank...I prob wouldn't need this...but its always good measure to have something . Hope that answers any questions...if you have more..ask away....Oh, BTW, it took me and my buddy like 35-45 mins to get it installed....and you can't run it UNLESS your TUNED FOR IT. ![]() Majin's the reason I got an AP, and once that was done, it just snowballed from there (Granted, I'm "only" stage 2 protune, but regardless it's miles from the stock car I thought I'd have).I might do meth once my car is a little older, because all these other guys make it sound pretty fun (especially Chris with his 12L tank talk ). I just don't want to mess with it right now. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Awesome info! Nice.... Meth sound great... but it is high maintenance. Obviously I'd get used to it and doing the regular oil checks and changes, as well as monitoring all the gauges (another expense...), would become second nature. I'm actually surprised at the cost. For the gains, it's pretty cheap. Less expensive than an AP, but very good gains. Even factoring in a tune, it's still a great deal. Spaze - what's the deal with just water injection? Are you running it? I checked the first page of your journal and you don't have it listed, but any info on it would be great. Thanks again for the info, mucho appreciated |

| A.X.D. | water injection is used to lower cylinder temps and burn the air/fuel mixture more efficiently - this helps avoid detonation (since the air thins out after getting heated from compression [boost] from the turbo). |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Hmm. I've looked at the Perrin PW1 system, the Coolingmist Stage III kit, and the SMC kit. They range from about $670 down to $500. I'll probably skip out on the PW1 system since it seems a bit $ for the same thing in the Coolingmist and SMC kits. But, is there a "better" (subjective word, I know) kit between the SMC and Coolingmist? The other thing I read is that a wideband O2, an EGT gauge, and a boost gauge are required. I've already ordered the Defi BF 60mm boost gauge, so I'd have to keep the rest of the gauges consistent. That's a lot of money right there... another ~$500+ if I decided to get another 2 gauges. BTW, would a wideband really be necessary? |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 Trader Rating: (11) | Majin does not have a wideband for his 20g/meth setup, and knowing that he researches things thoroughly I'd say no, it's not required. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | ^Thanks. I won't be self-tuning anytime in the near future. Zero time to learn a new language. Any opinions on the different kits? Coolingmist Stg III = $539 (+ cost of 12L tank) SMC Kit = $499 (+ $90 tank) |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (17) | I would go with the Coolingmist (biased) but make sure and get the clogged nozzle detector. CB |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Wideband isn't "needed", but being the person that I am....I need to make sure everything is all good...and having it there, and monitoring every now and then when I go WOT.....its good to know that it is where it should be every time. Gauges help you see things that you normally don't hear when you drive ....just good to have..but never "needed". If I was running no Meth Injection, then no, I wouldn't feel that a wideband is needed. Thats just my view on it. SMC will come out with a fail safe system in the upcoming months....I honestly love their kits.....and they will rebuild it if you feel that the motor isn't running where it should...honestly...just call both companies and see who you feel more comfortable with, and just ask all the questions you need. Then you will def know who to go wtih. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
