http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/wr...dr725_fmic.htm

Looking at the APS fmic it looks like an absolutely great peice and from results i've seen it has put out on high power motors, but one thing i don't get is where the intercooler piping joins the intake manifold. Why is it on the turbo side of the engine bay, doesn't that just kinda defeat the purpose of having cold air going into the motor? The turbo is right under the piping before it joins the manifold, wouldn't that just heat the air up before it goes into the motor?

The ones that appeal most to me are the ARC FMIC and the Ultimate Racing FMIC, they're a bit pricy but they're designs look flawless.

Also the KINGPIN intercooler sounds perfect. The description says it all try and find it on their site: http://www.kingpinperformance.com/

The KingPin looks like some serious bling, but sounds pretty good.
My only concern with going FMIC is the increased lag. 20g turbos aren't that big comparatively, and these FMIC are all rated from ~500HP to 1000HP. I don't see the point in going FMIC on a turbo the size of a 20g. A GT35, yes, but possibly not this.

I'm going to try OEM TMIC, with upgraded injectors and fuel pump, and see how it holds up. If I'm getting serious heat soak and lack of air flow, then I'll probably spend the money on a black APS FMIC.

But then again, maybe a bigger TMIC, like APS', is the way to go..... Research is in order.

Sounds sweet. I understand that you wont want a fmic for the amount of power ur going to be pushing with that 20g, so a farely large tmic or even stock STi intercooler would probably get the job done. 20g's can put out some serious power if pushed though onward towards 400-450chp. So a larger intercooler is what your probably gonna end up having to do.

As for lag you gotta think about how your dyno chart will look, like alot of people with gt35r's say its laggy and all but the amount of trq that the car is making at say 3000rpms, which is a 1000-2000rpms before a 35r would usually hit full boost, is ALOT of trq.

Take this dyno graph for example:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1104865

its an 06 with a 20g, and look at the amount of trq that this thing makes a just 3000rpms!! It makes 260wtq at 3000rpms which is more than a stock STi would put down at peak trq. Thats ALOT of power at such low rpms and the turbo's not even fully spooled up, and that is what people consider "lag". I'd give a left arm to get more than the pathetic 146wtq@4600rpms my RS puts out haha. Am I making sense?

Yeah, that guy made some serious numbers. He's also got the 50/50 alky injection as well, which will help.
But, I do here what you're saying... and you are making sense

Yeah, the whole "lag" thing is really a gray area. I asked that same type of question to my tuner... While a bigger turbo is lagging, where, at the same RPM, would the VF39 be? Seems that even though a big turbo is "lagging," it's still putting down bigger numbers at the same RPM as the stock turbo. Lag is subjective.

I agree though with having to change or modify my current intercooler setup. My tuner figures that after all is said and done w/ full exhaust, protune, CAI, 20g, injectors and fuel pump, the car should be putting down 425CHP. There are going to be some cooling issues

That's cool

Just out of curiosity, did he, by chance, let you sit in it? Just curious... he (Dave) had strict instructions not to let anyone open the door

I should be picking it up not this week but the next.
There's about 80 volumes of paperwork to go through to get the car ready for export to Canada.
But it's so worth it

So, in terms of mods, I've decided to go to WBR's big FMIC (in black), Perrin's modded injectors, and go for the 20g turbo.
This is going to be fun

Haha, at least David took me seriously when I said I didn't want anyone even breathing on it
I said it jokingly, he took me literally.

Aw well, no need for me to worry then. Thanks for the update Bryan
