what are you going to do about the DS? is it a problem you can feel all the time?
Crazy, crazy power. I'd love to go for a ride in that car, that's for sure.

The DS problem really isn't a "problem" per se. I never feel any vibration in steady throttle situations, or really in normal city driving. That's what makes me believe it's not a misbalanced DS. If it was, regardless of anything, it would be RPM's that caused the vibrations.

In my case, the only time I feel it is in 2nd and 3rd. In 2nd, it happens so fast that it's not noticeable unless you know what to listen/hear for. In 3rd, the range is 3800-4100 RPM. I get this slight shudder that I never had before the DS install. I honestly think that if I were to look and see the angle the DS made with the diff, it'd be off a couple degrees. Without getting in there and measuring it, though, I can't be certain.

Anyway, I know what to feel for because when I first put it on, the vibration was much worse. I could feel it from 3000 RPM to 4500 RPM in 3rd gear. It would shudder and hum. It was a really odd sensation. So, it was unbolted and rotated 180* - pretty much just to re-mate and adjust what could be adjusted to see if that helped. It did... almost perfectly. There's just a little shudder now.

So, the plan is to just leave it as is... it's hardly noticeable anyway right now. When I upgrade my engine and tranny mounts (at the same time as installing the turbo), I'll take the extra time to get the angles correct so there isn't any more harmonic vibration. I think it'll matter a lot more then when there's going to be so much more torque.

Sweet, another update!

Josh @ Import Image hooked me up again with

1) APS 70mm intake

and
2) Perrin 2.4" Turbo Inlet

So, there's only a few things left before the fun truly begins:
1 - 850cc injectors from Deatschwerks (should be here any day)
2 - The GT52 (obviously...)
3 - EM of some sort
4 - A meth kit (probably SMC)

So, the end of the beginning is almost here. Once all the parts have finally shown up, then it's bolt on time and tuning time. I seriously can't wait for the next chapter of all this!!!

+1 for the smc kit. I will be getting my kit in march since I just tuned my car with my 20g setup. So i'm just enjoying my new found power w/my 20g. I'm expecting to be use to the power of my car by march so I will probably crave more then...

True true. I wish there was more fame to my name though... I'm sure a lot of us do

dasnowman I'm running 235/40/18's. I bought these off another forum member... they had a few thousand miles on them only, so I'll have them for a couple summers before I need to get new tires.

Let me know how your tire experiments go... it'll also depend a lot on the wheel you choose.

My disgust for 91 octane gas is growing. There is absolutely no doubt I'll use a meth kit, SMC most probably, when I tune the GT52. I think after I finish my courses, I'm going to enroll in my own course - Subaru tuning It bugs me that I have to spend $1,000+ on an AP and a pro tune when the knowledge is already out there. For the price of a few books, a tactrix cable, and many hours of studying, I think it's a fair trade.

Is anybody tuning their big turbo setups with Enginuity or Cobb ST or AT?

Thanks a lot man.

It's a catch 22 during the winter here for getting pics... when it's freezing cold out, the roads are usually dry, but no one wants to be outside snapping pics. When it warms up, then all the snow melts and it's slush and dirty isht all over the cars... so it's warm enough for pics, but the car is dirty

Anyway, good luck working on the wife! Tell her it's for a good cause! Or better yet, just surprise her

Whoa, been a few weeks since I updated. This has been the craziest competition season I've ever had. I've had 8 tournaments in less than 2 months... do the math, and it's obvious it's been pretty hectic. I've been on more flights in 2 months than most people do in 2 years Anyway, I'm finally finishing the season next week in New York City.
Hehe, anyone in Manhattan that goes through Grand Central and sees a glass squash court right in the middle... well, you might be watching me

Anyway, since January, I've gotten a pitifully small amount of work done on the car. I did manage to get a performance alignment. I got 0 toe all around, and rear camber was locked in at -1.76*. That's BC Racing coilovers for you. Front camber is dialed in at -1.1* +/- 0.4* from the camber plates. I asked them to leave a little bit of room on the camber plates in case I wanted a more agressive setting in the summer.

The rears tires are going to wear more quickly, but that can't be helped.

Anyway, driving impression after = awesome. I can't believe what a difference a good alignment does on the road. Everything feels tighter through corners, more planted on straight line cruising... my entire suspension setup feels ~better~.

Besides that, Prosport sent me a new boost gauge after the last one was dead out of the box. I got that installed and finally I can see what the turbo is doing. Happy.

The GT52 has arrived (). After returning the too-small 750's, the Deatschwerks 850cc/min top feed injectors are on there way to me via USPS right now. So everything is ready to go besides the AP. Cobb must be getting close - the thread in the Tuning forum is pretty evident of that.

After next week, I'll be installing the core of the FMIC, but not the piping. That'll have to wait until the turbo upgrade and tune. I'll be installing the Perrin turbo inlet in two weeks as well, finishing off all the mods that I can do before the GT52 goes in.

And last but not least, and one mod I'm really looking forward to, is the 11.5:1 quick steering rack from Q-rack. I got in on the group buy and the rack should be at my door step in a short while. Besides the turbo, that's the one thing that I'm most excited about. No more "dead" or "empty steering." I think in terms of suspension, this will be the most drastic change. All I need now is better seats so I'm not bounce-bounce-bouncing all over the place.

/update

I swear this is the longest journal with the fewest pics
Time I will have in two weeks and I'll fix that problem!

Cheers all.
