This started as my hello post to this forum, but then I realized I wanted to be cool like the rest of you with my own journal... > )

In order to pat myself on the back for graduation, and landing a job with the US Patent Office, I did something naughty... I bought a car. Fast forward 2.5 weeks 'till when they finally delivered it (I was very specific on the options that needed to be custom'ed), and I took delivery of the car May 6th.

Here she is, the 2006 Subaru Imprezza WRX STI, in the only color which matters to me, World Rally Championship (WRC) Blue:

My friend Al was kind enough to help me install the new headunit [movie] I had sitting in my room a week before delivery. After setting the rev warning to 4,000 rpm (so I can properly break in the engine), calibrating the compass [movie] (hah!), and disabling the daytime running lights, I was ready to enjoy the beast.

First order of business was just appreciating the amount of effort which has been put into the most small details, such as the intial startup check [movie], or just fiddling with the intercooler spray button to hose her down, and leave her wet. Little things like taking in the curves of the body, or peeking between the wheel spokes helped me bond with my new car, much in the way a newborn imprints on its mother in the first couple hours.

Next up was getting my mom's blessing on the whole ordeal (my dad was sold weeks before), and after a quick lap around the block, the verdict was in... "In the back it's VRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOMMM!" [movie] The day was spent putting 100 miles out of the first 1000 break-in baby miles, getting the necessary parts for different mods I was already planning (my first rule of modding this car will be the mod must be functional). Al and I caught some grub, and finished up the headunit install because I was missing a couple wires. All said and done, the stock 6-cd changer's out, and the Alpine with direct iPod hookup & control is IN! [movie] The daytime running lights no longer are, and the foglights are independent from the headlights as they should be. Took about 5 hours of work all in all, but the word 'work' is probably stretching it. I'm on cloud nine.

I don't know what's next, besides cursing the 4,000 rpm rev alarm 900 more times as each mile ticks away, and dreaming of the day when I'll be able to make use of the 300hp, 300ft/lb 2.5L 4-cylinder Boxer engine to pwn BMW M-3's, Audi S4's, and even Porche 911 Turbo's... that is if I can hone my skills on the track and off. But road-peen isn't why I bought this car, the injection of thrill and enjoyment into daily driving, is. Since my '89 Galant, onto a '92 Eclipse and then a '96 Camary (all about 8 years old when I first got them), driving has always been seen as a sort of hassle to me, a point A to point B mode of transportation which just sucks time and wastes money. I don't know if it's the finance agreement I'll be paying off for the next 4 years, or the honest-to-God born-again feeling I have in my gut, but all I can think about doing is driving now. We'll see in a couple months heh.. until then, here are some sex pictures of my new smile machine, that I somehow found time to take.

I just finished up my Scoop Grill mod, and it looks awesome... it was about $7 in parts total (I was naughty and returned the paint after putting on the one coat of primer and 4 coats of black heh). Pics? Of course...

I love the pic of the shifter, has a very nice 'aesthetic balance' to it. Would look good as your avatar. By the way, what is that hanging around it?

hey man, it nice meeting you and your friend at the gsp/edgewater meet the other day. cars looking very fresh and clean. you're already catching a mild case of the mod bug

dont worry it only gets better. i might have to do that scoop mod, my intercooler looks like it was shot up more times than 50 cent.

It's a good luck charm from my mom (Chinese = superstitious heh). It's a jade Ram 'cause I was born in the year of the Ram. Jingles every time I shift, so it adds some nice treble to the exhaust bass.

Hah... you didn't see me flip the key off and on about 20 times trying to time the delayed shutter correctly... hah. As long as somebody but me got a kick out of it, it was worth it. Thanks for the compliment, and enjoy heh.

are you running the stock exhaust? i watched your compass calibration video and your exhaust didn't sound stock.

...nope, not stock, but it is dealer. It's the SPT Performance catback. Oh... before I forget, I took a trip down to Alexandria this weekend to check out apartments, and... well...

BREAK-IN IS DONE!!!

Gonna get my first oilchange tomorrow so I don't feel guilty blasting away, and then follow the maintainance from then on (3750 miles I think). Using the turbo for the first time was scaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaary... and fun.

...you should have seen my scoop grill after the ride back up from VA... YUCK. Super wash tomorrow, but I know it's going to be in vain since I'm headed up to the Wicked Big Meet this weekend, so it'll be another 600 mile bug-filled, bird-bomed trip.
