I guess you could, but Im not sure how much heat it would block by itself. I think its only purpose is to seal the wrap and provide a little better heat retention than without.

I just got home after installing the DP. All i have to say is DAMN! FIrst of all i snapped all but 2 of the heat sheild bolts which kinda sucked cause now i have to tap new holes to get the shield back on. Then i realized i left my 1/2 inch to 3/8 adapter for my breaker bar at home (45 min away) and had to run to sears to buy a new one. Then when i got back and got all the bolts off it took 15 min of shaking and pulling to realized i had forgotten a bolt near the bottom of the DP by the trans. When i finally got the new DP on i was about to tighten the bolts and realized that i forgot the gasket, so i had to unbolt it and slide the gasket in.

On the good side i used liquid wrench on the turbo bolts and with the breaker bar it was effortless. I also left the intercooler on which wasnt as difficult to work around as everyone made it seem. Slow cruising there is almost no sound increase, just a little deeper, but when I punch it the car screams. I had forgotten my AP (yeah i was on a roll) so i didnt flash stage 2 yet, but there is a noticeable increase in power.

One question i have is there was a heat shield that looked like it was welded to the uppipe that almost touches the DP. I noticed it rattles when the car is cold and was wondering if i could remove it without any problems?

Ill take some pics tomorrow morning of the DP in the car, I am just way too tired to do it now.

I finally had a chance to take a few shots of the DP in the car.

Here is the cut heat shield. I had to get new bolts and nuts to attach it due to the fact almost all the heatshild bolts snapped.

After driving for a week on just stage 1 i was more then impressed. I would hit 1.1-1.2 Mpa on most shifts and didnt notice it going any higher than 1.3.(I have the crappy oem gauge) Everything was fine untill thursday on my way to work. Some jerk in a caravan pulled out of a gas station and cut me off while I was doing about 50. I had to lay on the brakes so hard a neon almost rear-ended me. Of course I held the horn down for a good 10 secs after he pulled out. Right after I let off the horn I was right behind him doing about 30 and he brake stomped me real bad, like it was my fault he cut me off. Having a fairly short fuse for stupid drivers, I decided that I was going to get in front of him and and give him the finger for a good 5 miles (I know its ridiculous, but at the time it felt necessary). When the opposite traffic was gone and we got to the dashed lines I crossed over and gunned it not thinking of what gear I was in. Well fourth gear was the wrong gear at 35MPH to punch it. While Im passing I hear the turbo screaming and all of a sudden the car hesitates real bad, jumps, then continues going. I look at the dash and see the check engine and cruise light and thought "damn, boost creep". I was so mad at myself that I only gave him the finger for 2 miles. I realize that its not that big of a deal but I had to vent. I was pissed off the rest of the day at work. Im hoping that when I flash stage 2 this weekend that I dont hit boost creep again.

I found an awesome road to rip around on. The views from it are awesome! The only bad part is that one mistake means splat over a cliff. I took this video and posted it on my myspace. The video is with a digital camera so the pic and sound kinda sucks. I plan on taking more runs on this road to try and get faster. Let me know what you think.

I finally got around to getting a protune at XX Tuning. First off, what an amazing facility. I couldnt have asked for a better experience. I will definitley be a returning customer. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Chris ended up getting 294 hp 331 tq with my fuel pump maxed out and needing to be replaced very soon and my clutch slipping like mad. He let me know that he could try another pull but my clutch might totally go and I would be stuck there with a large bill. Chris felt that I was better off with a very conservative tune considering my problems. I was happy with the numbers and we went on the road tune. I am very happy with the overall results. The car pulls like crazy and has a very smooth power delivery. Before the tune I would get boost creep pretty bad when it was cool out. On the road tune I got on the throttle in a way that would have given me creep before and there was no problem.
Here is a pic of my car on the dynapacks

I finally got all my gauges in. I went with the defi boost, oil pressure and oil temp. I pick up a carbon fiber pod from a member and used the greddy sandwich adapter for the sensors. Getting the sensors to fit was a real pain with the PT and NPT crap, but a little research and it was all good. The fit is just ok, but the pod looks great. I have to spend some time adjusting the feet later. Heres a pic

I also decided to get the BBSs painted gloss black. A shop in Peekskill NY called Ultimate CC did the work and they came out great. I highly recommend them if you need any paint work done.

Im thinking tint might be next.
