Default Re: -Four's '06 CGM (30k finally completed - Diff/Tranny/Tires)

After much delay I finished my 30k maintenance. I rotated the tires and swapped back to my chrome lugs from blue in the process as my blue lugs were all chipped and scraped up. Also finally changed the Tranny and diff fluids.

To do this I used the How to: Change your Transmission Fluid thread and the What you need for a rear differential fluid change thread. Each were quite helpful.

For the actual fluids I used Motul Gear 300 for the Tranny and front diff and Motul 90 PA Limited-Slip for the rear differential. All went pretty smoothly except for one mishap. I was struggling to get one of the tranny drain plugs out without stripping it and had my father help with a breaker bar. He got it loose, but in the process he knocked the fluid that we had already drained into the pan all over his face and neck. He got some of it in his eye and mouth. Got him all cleaned up, but he let me know that it tastes worse than it smells!

I took the car for a ride and the shifting feels great. It doesn't feel as notchy and it has seemed to smooth out a bit. I will keep an eye on it and make sure I am not leaking anything down the road.

My Wingless Rant...

I am getting little tired of trying to find someone to swap with for a wingless trunk. I have gone through 4 different people that I was going to trade with that have simply bailed on me.

1st guy I found actually responded to someone elses post that he had a wingless trunk in OH. I just shot him a PM in hopes he still had it and wanted to trade. He wrote back right away and said he would think about it. Never heard back from him. I sent him a PM a month later, he decided not to swap. Fine, but you at least could have told me.

2nd I found was someone in Maine that wanted a WRX trunk but hand a wingless. Well then I ran into a guy in Long Island that wanted an STI wing and had a WRX trunk. I was working out a 3 way trade. Well then I didnt hear from the guy in ME for a while. I had to email one of his friends to get the scoop.. found out that the ME guy traded with someone else for an STI wing that I could have traded with him and left me and the Long Island guy hanging.. yeah thanks for waisting my time a**hole!!

3rd was another kid that was in VA. He had a OBP wingless trunk and wanted an STI wing.. color didnt matter to him or me as I would just paint it. He just wanted to check at a local suby meet for a possible trade, then he would get back to me. After the meet I PMed him. His response was that he no longer wanted an STI wing, but was going to keep his wingless and purchase another wing for his trunk.. at least he apologized for waisting my time.

4th just bailed on me today. I found a guy on the new Imprezaworld.com. He actually contacted me for a swap which surprised me. He had a 2.5i down on long island and was ready to swap. We were planning to do this soon. I had a few scratches on the wing I told him about and wanted to get them fixed before the swap so I took it to the body shop the next day. I layed out $175 to get it fixed.

The next day I get a PM that states his GF caught wind that he was planning a short trip for the swap and flipped out on him saying that he spends too much time on his car and not enough with her. The GF made a deal with him that he could not do anything to the car for a week and then he would get back to me about the trade. I waited and no response. I wrote back to him with just a "whats up and please let me know the deal here." He responded saying that his GF bought him a bunch of car stuff and made him promise that he cant do anything to his car until xmas. I said fine, I have to respect that, but WTF???? The trunk swap is free... I even offered to drive to this guys house so he wouldnt have to go anywhere and use any gas money. Still no dice. So now I am stuck with a freshly painted beautiful wing and no swap.... again.

Now I am back to square one with $175 less in my pocket that I could have used to buy a new trunk..........

Update 8/31/07: I have had 2 more people contact me about trading, but they are not willing to drive more than 30min for a swap.. My god you people are pathetic. How lazy can one be. Not everything in this world will fall on your lap, if you want it, you have to go get it..

Anyway I think I am giving up on searching right now. Winter is coming and the ugly trunk will be under snow for most of the time. Ill save some money and buy a damn trunk and paint it unless I come across something that is worth while.

Just a quick update. I am pumped! I actually found a wingless trade and we are swapping this weekend. Not the same color, but the owner of the wingless is getting it painted for me. I am like a kid with christmas approaching.. and all for a wingless trunk! Weird.. I am happy to get rid of the ugly-ness that is my wingless STI trunk with the holes.

Pics to come after Sunday! Woot!

Not if you live in Norcal! Seems just about every CGM wingless that wanted to trade lived in Norcal.. too bad I am 3000 miles away!

I am officially wingless!! If you had read my troubles posted above, you know the crap and some of the people I dealt with. I wasnt happy. So one day when cruising Nasioc looking a swap, I came across a WRX owner in MA. He had an 06 WRB WRX. Well they how did I get a CGM trunk you ask?! Turns out this kid has some experience in painting. I gave him my color code and he painted his wingless for free. Cant beat that!

So I took the drive down to MA 2 weekends ago on the 9th and did the swap. The trunk isnt perfect, but it is good enough for now. The color matches, but the metal flake is a little bit bigger that the OEM paint. I am going to let it go for this winter as it is going to get beat up in the snow. I will plan on getting a repaint next spring/summer. For now I am happy as the ugly holes and plugs are gone.

Also, the trunk is originally from an 03 WRB Bugeye. This would be it's 2nd swap.
So, as promised... The pictures! Take at Letchworth St park as we were camping this weekend.

And a new sig

Some lousy phone pictures when I installed the 3rd brake light a couple of months ago.

and a slight chop of the old trunk with the wing removed, just to see what it would look like badgeless

Thanks!

I actually like the look of just the small wing. Gives it some character since the large wing is gone. Full wingless looks good as well though.

Just a post about my future plans with the car. I happened to catch this thread on Nasioc and I was very encouraged as to what I can do with the stock turbo and TMIC. I will be running 93oct, so I am hoping to get somewhere between these two graphs.

Some quick differences. I am hoping to either P&P the stock manifold or go with a Gruppe-S UEL. APS CAI, GM Boost Solenoid, Walbro (if needed) along with my Cobb TBE and a tune. Opinions welcome.

I'm extremely impressed that we could get these results with no EWG. I was even more impressed how well the maps from downsti's car adapted to this car. For reference, downsti's car was making 335whp/400ft-lbs when he ran 11.7 and trapped 115mph.

These came on Wednesday. Mastercraft Glacier Grip II picked up on Vulcantire.com for $91 each. Total came to $400 shipped. These are a studdable tire, but I wont be using the studs. Also a severe winter snow tire for the nasty stuff. I am itching for snow and winter now. They'll be mounted on the BBS in the next few weeks. Bring on the snow baby!

I hope they are just as good or better than my old Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo on my 4wd S10 Blazer. I was unstoppable with these. I will definitely be doing a little hill climb here on a seasonal road to find out after the snow hits.
