fixed...

We all have opinions. We (some of us, Bruce especially) all know what works and what doesnt. Crazy to fly off the handle like I did. But...

Bruce, you of all people, should tell people what works and what doesnt. You have been throught it all!

I know its good fun, I know its none of my business, and i know its what keeps this "Subaru thing" alive.... I dont know what else to say.

First IMO would take those heads of that motor. Send them out to get tested. Port, polish, etc. (whatever you do to them). Install them on the stock engine with the 55 first. Its alot cheeper and more reliable than rebuilding an Engine that is already blown up. God knows what the hell else is wrong with that thing. IMO again ide scrap it for aluminum money and buy some hamburgers and hot dogs and have BBQ....

Sorry for the "flying off the handle" thing....

1. They make high horsepower, reliable , *racing* parts (engines that stay together)

2. Just because you are sponsored by someone doesnt mean that they are the best...oooohhh HAHAHA ... I didnt see that.. "(blatant commercial endorsement)"

OK OK.....

First off...Nick thanks so much for your informative speech, I have NO idea where that came from.

Heres the stuff you prob don't want to hear, or maybe you do.

I am talking to AR FAB about sending in the block and having them INSPECT and port it out, then apply the neccessary goodies on it. They have complete packages, and I may opt for the 2.6L deal. I believe with their help or any respectable engine builder, and ofcourse Kiwi Ian, I am in the safe zone and I am good to go. I have read Bruce's journal well, and I have an idea of what works and what doesn't. But I don't think I will go his route (yet) since the fuel system and oil system is pretty worked up. (Very nice Bruce.)

Now about my: (body kitz, electronic suspensionz, meffff, gaugezz, and every spare part you have):

I really don't appreciate you knocking me out to sell these things for a built engine, and wouldn't you need some of these things if you had a built engine, I would really appreciate it if you had some more respect towards me. Second off, the body "kitz" I have on the car I bought for a WHOPPING $225, thanks for watching out how I spend the money, but since the guy was going to trade the car in and wanted to get rid of the body kit, or KITZ, I jumped on the deal..sorry, I wish to stand out from the normal crowd, and about my FRONT BUMPER that Mike has nicely noted, Yah, I DON'T CARE honestly what anyone thinks about my car, you hate, fine, you like it fine, doesn't matter, I have plans already to get a new front bumper in the summer when I get my FMIC. So spending $225 for the entire KIT doesn't bother me. But thanks for your input.

Cosworth, yah they are great, SO IS Cobb, AR FAB, Axis, etc. I feel that I am handling this very well, and with AR FAB's help or some other engine builder who has experience (Ian) or whoever, I will be fine. Bruce, I think it was a low blow to bring him into that story, and his 2-3 passes he may of made. Bruce went down a road that not MANY people go through, and it was just his luck that those things happened. We all learn, true. But since I have watched Bruce's story fold, and hear other people's great sucess with other engine builders, I have an idea of where to go.

Al is very smart with his approach too. He is getting it worked on and throwing some rods, pistons, bearings, polished crank, etc. Basically the SAME THING, but he is using a shop, where I will use Ian and a shop that has the machines to do the work to the engine I have. Plus, I got the engine (long block) for free, where he had to pay for his short block. I appreciate all your comments, but would appreciate it more if you had some more respect towards me. And Mike, I only joke with you, I never mean what I say about you or your Camaro.

MasteR_of_Disaster07, can't believe you read through my entire journal! Lots of crap, but I like to take pics to show people what the part actually looks like. Hows is Iraq? I actually work with DoD, so I support the troops all over the world! Ever hear of SINCGARS or those huge Sat Dishes, those are my items! Hope everything is well there....keep safe!

If we all modded the car the way everyone agreed upon, that would be the most boring thing ever. Everyone would have the same built block/turbo/parts. That would make for great meets and great conversations.

Chris keep doing what your doing, cause at the end of the day its what makes you happy. Plus its your $$$.

I think people were trying to give advice, but it turned into a preaching session. More like "do this" and not suggestions. O well, it happens.

O and dont listen to mike, he has no power steering and is upset. Maybe we can pitch in and get some steering fluid, so he can turn the car without using both arms and a leg.

it's the internet Chris - everyone is an expert in their own mind

the most important aspect to building a motor is, without question, the person doing the assembly (the machinist). Neither Cobb, nor Azis, nor AR, nor 95% of the rest of whomever gets mentioned makes their own internals. Some use out of the box "kits", some sat down, did the math, and created their own combos, but none of it frankly is rocket science. That, despite what marketing BS any one firm puts out, or what the army of one "camp" or another spews out, are the cold, hard facts. I think what Bruce's journal does, if nothing else, is give you good insight as to who in general to deal with, and who not to. That being said, there are LOTS of places more than capable of assembling a stroker, or doing a full build on a 2.5 motor.

IMHO Chris, spend your time figuring out who you want to build your motor - don't get too caught up in the minutia of what components they actually use. Use someone you trust, who stands by their work, and you'll end up a happy camper .

Good luck man

Oh, and if you don't have one, buy a beater before you build a motor (I pseak from years of experience owning fully built cars).

Thanks guys.

Jordan, ahhaha, thats all I got to say. Thanks for your input, it wouldn't make for a great meet if everyone had the same crap on their cars!

Adam, whats up!? I have a beater...my 1986 Camaro...the parts that I want to use is the Brian Crower goodies...I hear great things about them, and Ian and I really love their setups! The hard part is finding a great shop to machine the block so their parts will fit in. If we had the machines and the experience, trust me, Ian and I would do it all. Just need to research more and get pricing.

The Crower stuff should be really nice. Have not had experience with one on a Subie yet, but we've used em on other cars for awhile, with great results. We also have one coming in for one of the Z's in house too

The flipside is you have to weight if doing such a small stroke upgrade is truly worthwhile vs the machining costs.
