Nice car.

I just got back from L.A., where it was t-shirt weather for me. I got off the plane at SFO, and I was pretty cold - low 60s instead of high 60s is a big difference.

You sir, have a great looking Leggy. I've seen yours here and there and it has a clean looking setup.

If you're talking about the K&N Typhoon intake, it fits without the heatshield;

The 70mm CAI provides a little more resolution when tuning.

I'm pretty sure they use the same piping, but you can contact APS to verify. I would have rather had the DR525, as the DR725 was overkill for my TD06H-20G. However, back when I had my STi, the 725 was the only one available. I think that if you run a 49lb. wheel or less, you'll be fine with the 525. Anything bigger, and I'd probably use the 725.

^^^ what he said

I preordered one of the first batches of dr525s coming into the states but after reevaluating my power goals i realized that the dr725 was more ideal for my situation. It's also a couple hundred more in price but the piece can handle a lot more hp.

I've never installed a FMIC before so I had to take it one step at a time checking each step twice. I think doing it again will be much faster. All of the steps that required cutting (chassis and bumper) made me a little nervous but that feeling goes away after the first cut. Sawzall and dremel are your friends.

The K&N Typhoon looked like it was going to be tight after angling it down so I just opted to go for the 70mm CAI after talking with my tuner. I didn't want to cut any corners with this project plus the hissing of the Typhoon was getting to me on long trips. The typhoon was pretty good in terms of function though.

Using the Samco intake hose was just an afterthought. Originally I used the regular intake hose but it didn't feel/look right after seeing how APS used a silicone coupler with their turbo inlet kit to reduce turbulence. The Samco intake hose comes extra long so cutting it is required to properly fit. A hand saw and some elbow grease is all that's needed. Remember to rinse out tube after cutting because there will be a lot of silicone debris.

I just regularly wipe down the engine bay whenever I have time. For places with oil I use Simple Green. I use a damp microfiber towel to remove dirt then another microfiber towel to buff out the IC piping and stuff like that because regular towels tend to be a bit abrasive making swirlmarks (which I hate).

awesome write up thanks for the info.

so wuld you say dr525 won't able to handle like gt30r? it seems like there isn't that much of difference between 5 and 7 as for the size. and i've seen small txs fmic handle more than 500whp. so is the 7 series really necessary?

The dr525 should be fine with a regular 30r setup. People even use TMICs with their 30r. But since my last setup was a DB 20G with stock topmount, I didn't want to deal with heatsoak again. From what I understand, the main differences is that the 525 offers more surface area than the 725 but the 725 holds a greater volume of ~200 cubic inches so basically you're paying 1 per cubic inch of cooling In retrospect, the weight of the 725 box shipped to my house was pretty damn heavy.
