IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | Outstanding Timeless...I just read through your journal. I love my 30r too. question. Why did you mount the air/oil separator there? why didn't you mount it the way crawford designed it? just curious! |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | Oh hehe, its not mounted there I just decided to snap a pic before I bolt it up. I thought the pic wouldn't come out as nice installed. That would be funny if it was there though |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | ^^^ thanks! I just ordered a set of JDM fogs w/multicolored lens. I've wanted them since I had my 04 JBP STI and seeing them on 520hp's car it pushed me over the edge. I wasn't sure if they were compatible with the APS FMICs but recent threads have confirmed it so I went for it. Can't wait! That's all. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | ^^^ The Crawford Seperator is an awesome piece. I was shopping for one but couldn't justify shelling out full price for it. Fortunately, I was able to find it from a guy parting out his 06 STI locally so I picked it up. The placement of the e-con was a no brainer after seeing your post. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | I had the opportunity to install the Crawford seperator but the fit was a little tight with the APS FMIC piping. Install was not hard it was just time consuming because trying to get the routing of all the hose plus making the hoses run in a clean direction was a bit tedious. At first I was confused with how the seperator should have been installed since I didn't have the instructions but it was all sorted out in the end. Onto the install. There are four hoses that come out from the seperator. The seperator itself mounts to the bolt holding in the pitch stop (dog bone). The top hose is basically the seperator's breather. You can run it back to the intake or put a small breather on it. Your choice. The 2nd hose down connects to a tee and splits; one to each side of the valve covers. The 3rd and 4th hoses connect to another tee and turns into one hose returning oil to the back of the block. Mystery solved. Here's some pics to refer to: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Install: Time consuming but not hard at all. Fitment: As stated previously, the fitment was tight with the APS FMIC hardware. The hose coming out of the throttle body charge pipe is pushed up against the wall of the seperator. Downsides: Cost. But if you look around online, the average cost of air/oil seperators (widely used by airplanes) is relative to Crawford's piece. The seperator is powdercoated either in candy blue or polished silver and looks to be good quality and functional at the same time. Good points: To provide a bit of background, I've experienced the usual amount of oil consumption; sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. At times, I've notived my car giving off white smoke out of my exhaust. It's been two months driving around with the Crawford piece and I've lost zero oil. I've always had to check my oil level after a hard run around town to fill it up to the proper level but its been steady ever since I've installed the seperator on. Summary: If you're thinking about getting a catch can and have a fair sized setup in your car I would look into getting this piece. Yeah, it's expensive but with a proper normal two catch can setup you're looking at almost the same price range. Although, I'm comparing the Crawford piece to a catch can, the functionality of the air/oil seperator is totally different from your typical catch can so I'm really doing it injustice. They do look the same but an air/oil seperator does not catch or store any material that will change its state over time or during a temperature change. On the other hand, catch cans do store its material over a long period of time and because of that condensation in the can could lead to build-up like the milky sludge people have found. The air/oil seperator does exactly what the name entails returning the oil back into the block. On another note, it's process it does not filter engine oil; it only puts back into the motor what comes out of it. So apples to oranges, the Crawford piece is not your ordinary catch can. I'm not an expert but I hope I was able to clarify some of the myths out there. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | nice write up. Did crawford email you the install .pdf? It was helpful to have that and an easy install. I love that piece, one of the best things i have bought. I too, have zero oil consumption. Lot's of people will want this writeup with pics. questions are asked often, and I get pm's often about it. *snicker* i have the blue one too. Im going to powder coat my intake manifold that color too....it is soooo hawt! |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (8) | Unfortunately I didn't get a pdf from Crawford. I was just replying back and forth with Quirt over there via email. He was very helpful. I've seen a lot of posts around regarding this piece and was curious myself. I started looking into it and just posted what I've found out from my research. Maybe I should post this up at NASIOC as well to clear up some thoughts on this piece. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (29) | Looks nice...thing is this....would you really want the crap that it collects to be re-routed back into the engine????? Is that even a good idea....eventhough some may think the oil that comes in is like the rest? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
