Thing is, from what I remember is, that he wants to get the FMIC and Meth...but doesn't know which one to get first due to funding. I recommended the FMIC, because drilling into that brand new TMIC would kill the resale value. Your right, if he stays with the TMIC, its pointless to get a FMIC and then go Meth. The TMIC with a 20g and Meth would be the ideal setup. All in all, she will be a beast.

the point is this: if you want all the power you can get, you will have to go front mount and a big turbo setup, etc. if you want a TMIC then stay with it and get what you can out of it. you're not always going to be the fastest car out there, and modding to the point of wanting to be is a pipe dream.

my set up should be slow but i'm whipping other cars with more power, etc. does it mean anything? only that i spent less money to get to the same point as others.
Why should your setup be slow? I think your car has all the right ingredients for a perfect DD that can whip 99.9% of the street cars out there. You & John are in a very similar situation with your setups....kinda funny.

I may not be the fastest, in fact no one on this forum probably is....and I don't think it's their objective (IN MOST CASES).....but it sure is fun making my car as fast, and perform as well as my funds/time will allow.....I think a few others around here share this sentiment.

That dip is definitely wierd. I've pushed the APS top mount well past 380whp and 24psi without issue, so I wouldn't go on that. How was the fan setup on the TM?

Either way, car looks good

I'm definitely considering it for the summer buddy! Weird thing is this top mount is SUPER efficient... it's always cold. I think it was robbed of circulation from a generic not "direct" fan on the dyno.

That's great to hear the APS Top mount holds up well. I think I've altered the view that it was the top mounts inefficiency towards more that of the TMIC not given proper air to cool with. Not enough air to simulate real life scenario's (Difficult to do).

Can you take a pic of the engine bay and how close TMIC sits to the firewall? Thanks.

I agree John, when driving on the road, that scoop forces a large amount of air through the intercooler, it was engineered to take in a larger amount of air then the regular WRX and other turbocharged Subarus. I just dont believe you can really even come close to replicating the airflow with fans compared to real world driving

If your going to keep the TMIC.......go with the Meth and be done with it!
Lenny, the TMIC fitted pretty well....it is def bigger, but it is snug. No touching of the AC lines or anything from what I recall.

Here's pics of the fitment of the APS SR375 TMIC for ya Lenny.

No clearance issues, and I could still actually fit my replica STi strut brace if I want to over it

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay in response we have been extremely busy. The APS Top Mount Intercooler is a very nice piece. Fitment is great and looks great under the hood. We had two different setup 20G STi's in the shop yesterday. But we did notice that this efficiency cooling problem did not happen with all other TMIC's. One had the TurboXS TMIC and the other was a SPEARCO TMIC. The one with the TurboXS TMIC had a 3" 20G and the SPEARCO equipped on only had the 2.4". We did not have any cooling issues for quite some time. Once it did get hot the power did start to fade but not drop off like the issue we had here.

Stock STi on our dyno is: 200whp

John was up near the 320whp range and climbing before the glitch. We had him swing by today to try and clear up this issue. I am sure he will update you guys when he gets back.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

-Rob

Well guys, I just got home from AutoMaster and the car got even better!
Rob took me out on a road tune, and he datalogged and edited several things. That top end dip is NO longer existant! The car just keeps pulling up top now, it feels great. Rob easily spent over an hour extra to tweak his tune to rectify this issue, and the car is great!

The injector duty's were at 75% max prior to this "retuning" and now reach 86% Sounds like a whole lot more flow to me! Rob claimed that the car easily reached our goal of 330whp on his dyno, and hopefully within the next month, it will be re-dynoed to verify The heatsoaking is no longer an issue, and the airflow kept it nice and cool.

The car pulls like a monster and I'm very pleased. Thanks guys

John, glad to hear that you went out for a road tune with the guys at automaster and they datalogged and tweaked some ecu numbers as you were driving, I knew everything would turn out great! Cant wait for a ride man! Enjoy,

lucky bastard
