Default Re: Fullerton's 05 Aspen White STi (Whiteline Roll Center Adjusters (BJE's) Installed)

I installed my Whiteline Roll Center Adjusters (aka Ball Joint Extenders) this weekend. Sorry, no picts.

I would rate the install a 7/10 for difficulty. The driver's side ball joint came out easily, while the passenger side required myself and a friend to both use a breaker bar to pry the thing out. This is after being soaked in PB blaster two times in two weeks prior and several hours of multiple soaks that day.

The tie rod ends were very easy to remove with the help of a ball joint remover. Wish the thing worked on the main ball joint. I highly recommend picking up a cheap remover if you try this yourself. It also helped me get the conical "washer" off the old ball join to move to the new ball joint.

I was unable to get re-aligned Saturday, so I missed an Auto-X, but I did get in in on Sunday. I asked for -1.75° on each side, but got -1.55°. Oh well. I'm not going to argue since I have been highly abusing the lifetime alignment deal as of late. I can still get the added camber I want for the track b/c of my PDE Plates.

As for the feel, it is a bit hard to compare. My last alignment was used to see what the max on the plates would be, which was -3.6° on each side. Since I dropped 2° of camber, but picked up a better camber curve, the car definitely feels different. It actually feels quicker responding. Probably a placebo effect, but I do like the way she turns better.

With the -3.6° and no RCAs, she would start turning somewhat slowly, then after a certain loading of the wheel, it would almost "snap" steer and really turn HARD. I didn't like how unpredictable it felt. I have a feeling this is a combination of flattening of the tire at a certain suspension compression and me suddenly hitting the bump stops.

Now, with the -1.55° and the RCAs, she IMMEDIATELY turns upon input. Much quicker and more responsive. I like this a lot more. I will post up when I hit the track on the 2nd and give her a workout.

Overall, after a limited amount of driving, I am very happy.

A tip for the install of any new ball joint: use anti-seize on the joint. The stock one was definitely rusted in place. Hopefully, if I even need to replace these joints, they'll pop right out for me because of the anti-seize.

Oil changed. Tires rotated. Air filter cleaned and oiled. MAF cleaned.

I'm ready for tomorrow's HPDE!

I will be brining pads and all necessary tools in case I kill the stockers this time. I have a tiny bit more than the thickness of the backing plate left, so I'll give them a try. I can always change them during lunch if I eat through them quickly.

That white/gold car would look better if it was OBP.

Default Re: Fullerton's 05 Aspen White STi (Öhlins Flag Series Coilovers Ordered!)

Well, I just gave the credit card a major workout. Ordered a set of Öhlins Flag Series Coilovers:

Quote:
Öhlins Racing AB also manufactures shock absorbers for road going performance cars. We have developed a shock absorber kit for a variety of sporty cars, including BMW, Audi, Mitsubishi and Porsche, and are in the process of producing shock absorbers for many more.

This product range for street cars dramatically improves traction, handling and at the same time the comfort of the car. The shock absorbers are produced in Sweden and Japan with the specifications, and above all, the development made in Sweden.

All shock absorbers are individually tuned for each model and its specific characteristics. We test ourselves by fitting shock absorbers to each vehicle and conducting thorough tests. As usual, we believe in trying to combine the hard-to-define ‘feeling’ of our experienced drivers with measurement data obtained from our advanced equipment.

Subaru FLAG Series Features

1. 25 clicks of rebound adjustment
2. 20 clicks of compression adjustment
3. Adjustable front camber plates
4. Inverted front and rear strut design
5. Includes main springs
• Front rate- 450lb/in.
• Rear rate- 335lb/in.
These are not my shots:
