It is a bit dim due to my dark rear tint. For those without tint, it would look great. I have not seen it on a bright, sunny day yet, so I can't say if it is visible in that situation.

I have been a bit disappointed in the low end of the stock stereo for a while now. I don't want to put a big, heavy system in so I decided to add a second factory subwoofer.

I was able to snag a NIB one on eBay for $75. It piggybacked onto the deck quite nicely and all I had to do to get it installed was bend the bracket to allow placement under my seat.

I am happy to say that it has filled in the lows. I turned the bass down on the deck so now the subs are doing all the low end work. No more distortion from the door speakers at higher volume levels. Yes, the stock sub misses some of the real low frequencies, but it sounds great for most rock music.

I think it was a worthy upgrade.

Sorry, no picts.

I also received my coilover covers from outerwears.com

These covers will go over the springs and shafts of my Flags, in an attempt to keep some of the Illinois road grime off the internals.

I have yet to put them on, but I'll give you my first impressions.

They look to be quality pieces. They are made of a heavy duty nylon material (or what I assume to be nylon).

There is a good inch of loop velcro on one side of the cylinder, and a third of an inch of hook on the other. There are three holes cut through the nylon and loop velcro that are designed to allow air flow during compression and rebound.

The top and bottom of the covers are fitted with elastic to keep the cover in place. This elastic is quite thin and I have a feeling it will fail after a few temperature cycles.

Once I install them I will get some picts up. But, I think they will be a great way to keep my Flags a little happier.

I also picked up a prefilter for my K&N on my CAI. I tested breathing through it and it offered very little resistance, but seems to have a lot of filtering material. Hopefully it will keep things a bit cleaner.

I would then need to buy an amp, which I do not want to do.

one small amp would weight less than the 2 factory subs, and you can mount it in the same spot under the seat nice brake light idea! i've been thinking about that. i still haven't installed mine . had it for like 4 years

The factory subs are very light. I neglected to weigh them, but they can't be more than a couple pounds each.

I think that a quality amp and new speakers would easily weigh more than that. Don't forget, the magnets on the stock speakers are basically nothing. A quality speaker would weigh a pound or two more due to the better quality cone and bigger magnet. Then add in a small aftermarket sub under the seat and you have added quite a bit of weight.

Besides, a quality amp costs way more than $75 and I'm cheap. I don't want to spend a lot.

In an ideal world, I'd do like you say and run some high quality components and a small 10" woofer...

Yeah, the head unit does not push enough power to run upgraded speakers unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and get an amp. Even a cheap one will help.

They are designed to simply connect directly between the head unit and the harness. Now there are just two between the head unit and harness.

Imaging the "X" is the head unit the harness is "—" and the "<" is a sub's plug. It looks like this now:
X<<—

I picked up a set of Whiteline Adjustable Lateral Links from TiC. In typical fashion, the shipping time was amazingly quick.

These are brand new to the market, made specifically for the STi.

Unfortunately, they'll have to wait a bit to be put on, as I want to install the SuperPro trailing arm buishings on the same day and I don't have the removal tool yet.

I'll post an update when they go on.
