The 12mm "heater" hose that came with the kit was far too short. I bought a 3ft one instead of the 22" one and will cut it to fit instead having it look like crap stretched across the top of the engine like I've seen in most other install pics.

I obtained a 3.5" hose clamp so no worries there.

I will look into not cutting the bumper, that would be interesting. Did you bend the metal bars that bolt the intercooler to the car? Also if you didn't cut the bumper at all, does this mean you still have the vertical piece in there? If so, wouldn't it be good to at least remove that to prevent it from blocking airflow to the IC?

i cut the opening of the bumper cover. that is a must. but if you bend the bars a bit you can make the FMIC sit higher since you have the JDM bumper beam. the hose they gave you is more that long enough if you have a adapter peice like i do so you can just connect it to the existing hose instead of have one that goes directly to the crank case.

here is mine sitting high

my friend in the stock location. look closely at the bottom of the bumper where i had to cut sections out so the FMIC can fit with the stock bumper beam.

this is what im talking about so you can avoid cutting the bottom part since you have the JDM bumper beam.

First and only shop it has been to for tuning/install work is/was Pruven. They installed the TiC super shift kit, the perrin downpipe and a fuel pump. The ECUTEK tuning was done there, but they outsourced it to Dynoflash.com since they mostly tune DSM/Evo/Supras etc.

Future tuning will probably be done by Tony at XX Tuning. Not because the Dynoflash tune was bad(its great!) I just don't want to take my car back to Pruven.

Finshed the installion of the parts I had left to do as mentioned above:

I didn't have enough clearance of the frame to move the IC up so I still had to cut the bumper a bit. Also it isn't mentioned in the Injen instructions but you really need to hack up the black plastic brake duct guides for the IC elbow piping. But thanks for the tip XfactorSTi

Took it for a short test drive to make sure everything was working. Inital observations are:

1) APS intake makes the BPV sound like a BOV. CRAZY turbo noises now. Lots of woshing...WOW.

2) Car pulls hard and smooth, so smooth it's erie, that said there is a slight hesitation now, and I think that is probably because I need a retune(timing adjustment) for the FMIC. It doesn't feel like lag, more like a pause while the computer decides it's go time. This may or may not adapt on its own. That said I've got to wait till my catless Cobb downpipe arrives before I get retuned.

3) It is amazing to come back from a spirited drive and put my hand on the intercooler and it is COLD. Even with heat wrap on the turbo and downpipe and the hood scoop, the stock TMIC was always warm/hot to the touch. I think any trade off in lag(which is to be determined after I get retuned) is worth the cooler intake temps and consistancy which this kit will provide.

(Also thanks for the garage compliments guys, I'm really happy too with how it came out. )

Things left to do/install:

RallyArmor Mudflaps(for winter use only, unknown arrival at this time)

RaceComp grassroots brake duct kit (unknown arrival at this time)

Cobb Catless downpipe (to replace Cobb catted) (unknown arrival at this time)

ECUTEK retune (undetermined as XX Tuning is REALLY booked might just wait until I get my new turbo and retune then)

Also trying to decide between the following turbos:
Deadbolt 20G
Deadbolt SZ49 (with fatboy wheel)
Deadbolt SZ55 (with fatboy wheel)
APS SR40
APS SR55

I want 375-400hp, but I would rather make less peak and have more power over a larger rev range. So hard to tell based off dynos as there are 20Gs making 350hp and others making 400hp while there are SZ49s making the same power ranges. Every dyno I look at has a different setup so it could be the supporting mods that make the difference. It's a lot of money for the next step and I want to make sure I make the right decision for my needs.

congrats on the intercooler install, came out really nice. id go with a SZ49 or a FP green, stay away from APS turbos as they do not perform as well as the much cheaper mitsubishi hybrids.

I'm pretty sure I want the SZ49, SZ55 or the APS SR55. Comparing apples to apples(55 vs 55) they cost nearly the same. Only $100 difference between the SZ55 and SR55. Could you clarify the "cheaper" comment?

I haven't considered an FP turbo at all. Unless I learn something amazing about them I don't plan on buying one.

DB turbos have had a major price hike.
a FP green is the equal to a SZ49, but you can't get a green with a 3 inch inlet for way cheaper than a SZ49. FP20g's with 3 inch inlets are making just as much power as standard SZ49's are.

I don't think I want to go down the path of 3" inlets. Don't they require more than just a new turbo inlet hose? Like tumbler deletes and coolant relocation?

Otherwise I would be all over a 3" inlet option.

After speaking with Jerry @ Deadbolt I learned of something I didn't know about before. I am 99% sure my new turbo will be a SZ49 with fat boy wheel. I didn't realize this was an option on this turbo. According to Jerry this will get me faster spool up AND more top end on the SZ49. PERFECT
