New Year's update. Still loving the shifter every time I use it. It's so quick, so precise, so much fun. Also still loving the seemingly endless surge of stage 2 power that takes me right to my shift point. I guess I can see why people want more than stage 2, but honestly I'm not planning on going any further for the forseeable future.

Next on the agenda: let there be light!

Can't help you there, Bruce... I thought you took care of that just after midnight on New Year's Day?

I really am. My car has rolled over 80,000 miles, many of those commuting to and from work. I still cinch down the CG-Lock when I approach those favorite ramps, and I still leave at least a little bit of rubber on them. I still love easing out of the stop signs onto those favorite straight stretches where I can rip through the gears. I still love it when I get to those parts of the trip where the road gets bumpy and twisty and oh-so interesting to those of us fortunate enough to drive a car as capable as an STi.

I still get a grin on my face, at some point or another, every time I drive it.

Sounds great Dave. I do miss mine. She would have around 65k on her now if I kept her. The '08's though have me itching to get another one. Someday soon after I can sit in one, maybe.

Default Chapter 15: The Ultimate STi Accessory

Because it had been my only car, I've been using the STi as a long distance commuter. It's been fun but it's really not what the car was made for. Plus I have some other ideas about what I want to do with STi, and if I follow through with those ideas it will render the car, uhmm, let's just say it would be less suitable for a daily commute of over 100 miles.

Needless to say I've been looking for some way to solve this dilemna. I finally found it -- the ultimate accessory that will allow me to use the STi as it was intended.

Big thanks to RichXKU for the inspiration. He calls his pair Yin and Yang, I guess that leaves me with, what -- Scooty and the Beast?

Silver is as silver does:

The Fit:

The front (The Future? )

The rear - now we know where some of of the 800 pound difference went:

Scooty and the Beast!

Heh. I've already done a couple of mods, and plan a couple more, but they're all of the comfort/convenience/efficiency nature. I added a Zeta dead pedal, I made my own padded armrest for the driver's door, and I popped in some higher output headlight and foglight bulbs from my buddies at rallylights.com. Which reminds me -- you know that long thread here about adjusting headlights because they come from the factory adjusted too low? Same is true for the Fit! I cranked them up quite a bit and still do not get flashed by oncoming cars.

It's still pretty new, and I'm still pretty new at driving to maximize gas mileage, but I just hit 39.9 MPG on my fourth tank. I'm hoping to be able to average 40 MPG during my commuting miles. I'll probably pick up a ScanGauge so I can see what tricks work better than others for me. RichXKU routinely gets in the 50 MPG range with his Fit, but he's a hypermiling maniac.

For me, anything over 35 MPG is a bonus. I calculated that, at 35 MPG, the car would pay for itself in reduced fuel costs alone. If I get better mileage, or if gas stays above the $3.75/gal I used for my calculations, I'm happier still; more money for STi mods!

That is why I don't like it; the car looks unbalanced when compared to the rest of the car(the fenders, the scoop, etc.)
