This is a silly question, but did you shoot flames before your car was tuned? If so, how did you not hit fuel cut and all that jazz?

[/noob]

Thanks~

Yes, the car was shooting flames with just the regular stage 2 map. I don't know if it would without it, because I flashed to the Cobb Stage 2 map before I even turned the car on after installing my exhaust . My guess is the car would hit fuel cut and have other problems with a catless exhaust and no engine management.

Here's a cool picture of the STI and the wagon before it gets sold on Thursday

Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is because APR is sponsoring the car and I need to figure out a way to make their front wind splitter work. It's designed for an 04-05 WRX, and as you know, the STI has a slightly different front end because the canards hang down.

Here is the APR front splitter:

As you can see, it's just a flat piece of carbon fiber. It bolts to the bumper and looks like this:

Obviously the pic above is of an 02-03 body style, but they make one for the 04-05. There isn't much a of a difference because both styles had a FLAT front bumper. The STI on the other hand doesn't.

Here is a pic of the STI front bumper, and I filled in the problematic area with pink:

Basically, I need to find a way to fill that gap in order to make the wind splitter effective. Most front lip spoilers, like the v-limited, have a hump in the middle that fills the gap. I am going to have to make my own "hump" I guess.

I was wondering what you guys would suggest using to fill it in, or if you guys knew anyone that made custom stuff like that.

APR is sending me the wind splitter, canard pieces, and mirrors on Friday so I am trying to find a solution before everything arrives next week .

I'd start with 1/4" MDF plywood painted flat black and work from there to something more exotic if you wish. More than a few real racers use splitters made from plywood, or "natural composites" as they like to call it in racing terms It's very light and strong.

I just got off the phone with APR and they suggested using a thin piece of aluminum and riveting it on. I think I like the plywood idea much better .

How would you suggest attaching the plywood?

I'd nut and bolt it on to one side (either the splitter or the bumper) with some big washers and use a double sided tape on the other side. I wouldn't want it hard fastened on both top and bottom or it will break everything the first time you bump into something. You could also use a thin piece of high density polyethelyne (HDPE) which is what the rally cars use for underbody cladding, but the plywood is muchcheaper and easier to obtain and replace if it breaks.
