Nice job on the 2:02.73 at Buttonwillow.

The March '07 issue of Car and Driver has on the cover article on "Hardcore! Sports Cars for the Track" where the '07 Z06 pulls a 2:01.00, the Exige S does 2:04.30, and the '07 911 GT3 does 2:01.50 all on Buttonwillow. Not far off from the GT3 and Z06!

To be fair, the 2:02 is being done with Camera equipment and cautious driving as to make sure the car doesn't run off the track and break thousands and thousands of dollars worth of equipment .

The best time I've run in the car at Buttonwillow is a 1:57.8 without the camera rigs. It hangs with the 997 GT3 RS Cup Car. The Z06 and GT3 get blown pretty far away lol .

What I find most amazing is that Ben choose parts that work well together, rather than then the most expensive or what other people say. All of his efforts + mad driving skillz = his times. Good job man, how fast were you when you still daily drove the sti?

Thanks

I don't remember exactly, but somewhere in the 2:03 to 2:04 ish area. That was before the front splitter (downforce), pro tune on 110 octane (50 extra HP and 110 TQ), and massive weight reduction of an additional ~200 lbs. The car was "light" in street form, but nowhere close to what it is now.

Not sure of the weight fully wet, but with some gas in the tank it's 2830 lbs.

It could be in the low 2700's really easily but I just ran out of time and/or the will to keep pouring money in it. Lexan instead of glass would be another 30-40lbs, aluminum subframe 40 lbs, etc. I also never went crazy and acid dipped the frame or started drilling holes in the car for the sake of removing exess metal / weight lol . Just doing that can drop an additional 80-100 lbs. Then you think about the fact that my cage is made of steel and not chromolly, so there's another 30 lbs. Bottom line is it's really light, but 2600's isn't out of the question if I ever have some more time on my hands.

We're currently filming the "Ultimate Streetable STI" project which will include:

Stock car / Stock driver -- laps around Buttonwillow (& best time)

Stock car / Professional driver -- laps around buttonwillow (& best time)

Then we take the car and mod the crap out of it on video with How-To Installs (while maintaining full drivability), and then send it back to the track.

Modded car / Stock driver -- laps around Buttonwillow (compare to previous times)

Modded car / Modded driver -- have the pro train the "stock" driver and then compared his times again. What's better? Modding the car or modding the driver? We'll see!

You can expect these how-to install videos as part of the project as well as others, not yet announced:

Nukabe / Cusco 2E Coilovers
Nukabe / Cusco Power Braces
Nukabe / Cusco Heat Shield
Nukabe / Cusco Lower Arm Bars
Nukabe / Cusco Brake Cylinder Stopper
Nukabe / Cusco Tow Hooks

Cobb 3" Catted Turbo Back Exhaust
Cobb Swaybars & Endlinks
Cobb Short Shifter
Cobb AccessPort

ACPT Carbon Fiber Driveshaft

The Car Lab (CL Development) X-Brace

Braille Auto Lightweight Battery

JapanParts JDM Bumper Beam

The Brake Man Racing Calipers
The Brake Man Lightweight Racing Rotors
The Brake Man #3 Racing Pads
The Brake Man Stainless Steel Lines

Also coming soon is a completely new version of HSPN TV and the HSPN Player, allowing for larger streaming videos (720 vs 400) and HD Downloads of most, if not all, of our previous videos and all future videos for subscribers of the HSPN TV service.

Exciting times are ahead!

I almost forgot to mention that we're upgrading the HSPN TV servers (yes, again ) to improve your overall experience and allow for instant streaming during peak hours (god forbid you should have to wait 5 seconds for a video to start during peak ours... ).
