We're trying to figure that out right now. Either 17x8 +45 or 17x8.5 +40. We just don't know if there is going to be a rubbing issue with the 17x8.5 +40. I know a 17x8 +40 fits, but a 17x8.5 will stick out another quarter inch and that might be pushing it. For whatever reason, Enkei doesn't make a 17x8.5 in 45 or 50 offset with the 114.3 bolt pattern

. The extra half inch won't really make that much difference, so unless Enkei can confirm that the 17x8.5 +40 will fit, we'll go with 225 or 235 x 40 x 17 slicks on a 17x8.

^^ why not go wider than 235 ?? many stis are running 245 and some even 255 on 8" rims, but i suppose there might be more of an issue of sidewall flex on the track (whereas those running 245/255 are more autox orriented). i'd be interested to hear your intuition.

The ammount of grip you pick up going from DOT R-compounds to slicks is huge (3-4 seconds), and the ammount of grip I would get going from 235 to 245 isn't very noticable (0-0.25 seconds). With all the downforce we have pushing the car down a 245 will rub in the high G corners, so we it's not really worth it to me. I've also found that the turn-in response is better with the 225/235's, atleast on the tracks I go to.

Other bonuses are that 225/235's are easier for me to get, they're cheaper, and they weigh a little less. When I'm destroying a set of tires in 1 to 2 track days it's much nicer to be able to just buy a Grand AM spec size tire that's always in stock.

For AutoX, I can see why a 245 or 255 would be beneficial. Especially considering that some guys go an entire season on one or two sets of tires (I'm very jelous

). Also, something that most people don't realize is that the section width of most of the slicks are a bit wider than street tires. When I say I'm running a 235 it might actually be the same overall width as a 245.
