What is interesting is you either have to have 10-14 guys, or 26+ at buttonwillow. If you have less than 14 you don't have to pay for track insurance, and if you have more than 14 it takes another 10 or 11 guys just to pay for the insurance and other extra fees before you break even.

I am still having weird capture issues with Adobe Premiere, but here is a poor quality (50% resized and still interlaced) frame capture of one of the laps:

If I can ever get this captured we'll have a picture-in-picture type deal with one camera looking out the windshield at the track (with the wide angle lense) and then the other camera looking at me (with the fish-eye lense). Should come out pretty cool, if I can ever solve this problem.

^ awesome! so what is the problem exactly? can you capture without the HD type quality stuff? if adobe is being weird, just use the windows movie maker, I use that a ton, its pretty damn good you cant do picture in picture I think.... but its not a bad program, i use it a ton

You cannot capture HDV with windows move maker, or even adobe premiere, but Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 has HDV support. Also, with windows movie maker you can't export in anything but WMV which won't work with the HSPN player (needs to be AVI and then converted to a special format).

Basically the problem is it captures about 9-10 seconds of footage fine and then suddenly turns to pixelated snowy garbage and the audio gets all nasty. I am popping in a new hard drive in a different computer and going to throw nothing but Windows XP and Adobe Premiere Pro on it so I can get these videos up.

I have a feeling it doesn't like my processor (AMD FX-55) although I know people that use 64-bit AMD processors and do HDV editing with no problems...

Either way, I'm going to throw it on another computer and see what happens.

It's a Sony HVR-A1U, 1080i HDTV Camera. If I wanted to try to import as DV (non-HD) I could use premiere just fine and I wouldn't need movie maker anyway. The whole movie maker thing is a good idea but it won't work in this particular situation .

What is interesting is I just spent the last 2 hours installing windows XP SP2 on a brand new hard drive, installing the updates and drivers, and installing adobe. Different computer, fresh operating system install, no other programs besides adobe, and same issue. VERY STRANGE.

I am just going to send the tapes over to Aaron (409industries is his username) and have him grab the clips for me. He is the main HSPN video editor and hasn't been having any problems using Premiere to capture HDV. I still need to get this mystery solved though.

EDIT: I am going to try a new firewire cable... it's the only thing these two computers have in common. I doubt it will fix anything, but it's worth a shot.
