I'm with spazegun2213 on the issue of starting out on street rubber. A loong time ago (in a universe far, far away), I used to race bimmers. We ran only street Pirelli's for a whole season in local events, then switched to "race rubber" (such as it was back then) and ran the second season. Street tires give you audible feedback from 7/10ths to 10/10ths. Race rubber (even more so today, as I use ultra soft compound slicks on my karts) gives you very little audible feedback, except right as they let go. With race rubber it's all tactile, and if you don't have that fine "edge" feeling quite yet, you're gonna spend time in the weeds, or worse, in a wall.

Develop the "edge" control, then slap on fresh race rubber, and as much of it as you can possibly afford. Man, I gotta tell ya - tires are a bummer. My partner who races an SCCA Vette goes thru the exact same amount of tires we do in karts: at least 1 set of fresh rubber every racing weekend. It adds up very quickly and is far and away the biggest single consumable expense in racing.

Yah my dad has lived in Port Jervis for 20 years or so, not really upstate, but close enough and I've watched it all change.

Hey guys I apologize for my lack of contributing to this thread but to say I'm busy would be an understatement. The test heads I sent out look great and will be put to the test this weekend at VIR. Of course like anything you don't do yourself you'll get it in double the time quoted....so nothing new here

We'll do a nice proper break in for my new motor and heads running 30 psi and 165 mph on the back straight at VIR. If I don't run at least a 1:59 this weekend expect to see my intercooler full of grass trying. LOL! If all goes well as I suspect it will, we'll correct the port work the best we can, and have the +1mm larger valves fitted to get Bruce's heads squared away and the project back on track. The rest is really detail work to clean up the engine, fuel system, and ensure the engine bay is put together properly for track use.

Thanks,
Phil

hilary and i are headed to hawaii on friday on a workation, for me, anyway. we're spending a few days on kaua'i and then we're on oahu for the rest of the trip.

neanderthals don't "do" squeal-like-a-schoolgirl. we're way too homophobic and the brain is too primitive to anticipate beyond a half hour or so.

what was the question?

What he meant to ask was did "You squeal like a baby raptor?"

Phil, you better do 1:59 or better- there's a tube frame dodge challenger from the '70's with 700+ hp and poor handling doing 1:57's . Would hate to be shown up:

YouTube - Dodge Hemi Challenger In-car video at 2007 VIR Gold Cup

Frank

btw, just watched the Top Gear GT-R in england episode. woooohhhhw. I haven't seen Jeremy that excited about a car since ???. When you watch that thing cornering at speed, it really does put a new spin on electronic traction control, doesn't it? Bruce, when will you have that thing at a track near MD? The '08 sti can't hold a candle to what that car can do...Aventinus is kicking in...
