It certainly is. And it belongs to a guy named Bruce, no less.

We are glad that you got all the bugs out of your beast and had a great time at the track.

thanks, quirt! just in case you missed it, i gave my official vendor acknowledgement/thankyou post here.
CUTN EDG: at the midway point of breaking in the motor- the next road trip begins

let me say this to anyone contemplating going big with your sti project, buying the crawford s4 stroker shortblock that lies at the heart of my motor was the smartest decision i made along the way. if nothing else, limerock showed me exactly how really special this motor is - sporting a huge turbo on a course where going fast in a straight line is only part of the equation.

Bruce,

I sent you a long PM, but just for the record here: great job with the write-up and that is terrific news about the motor. I knew you were a little....stressed, and I don't blame you a bit. That kind of oil leak (whatever it is) would have had me ready to crank up the Enola Gay.

With the time and effort you've put into this car, you deserve the accolades and as much fun at the track as you have time for. Go get 'em.

sorry i haven't read the whole thread, but its 8 pages and I've got 50 posts/page!!

How did the water injection work out? You going to post your results on your aquamist forum thread? Looks like it hasn't been updated since Aug.

war and peace, baby. in fact, the thread is so long, i added a table of contents on the 1st page if you just want to breeze through the highlights. i'm not sure what the current hit count is but you can probably add another 4 or 5000 more. the hit counter didn't register any hits at all for the first 10 days of the beast's existence when thread interest was highest.

that's because we haven't installed it yet.

we had some other issues to sort out and for any number of practical reasons, i decided to wait until early spring to install aquamist and have phil tune it on a dyno (93, 93+wi, c16+wi). in the meantime, i'll drive it down to maryland in a few weeks to have phil give it a road tune.

to tell you the truth, the car runs so well and is so fast on the base tune and current boost levels, i feel absolutely no pressure to max out the power before then.

Awesome car BruceChampion! Just one question: how come you went with the crawford S4 motor instead of going with one of their racing series motors? Is there a big difference in price/avalablity of them? How come the semi-closed deck instead of the closed deck race motor? Lower engine temps? Keep up the awesome build and best of luck!

there is now. subaru stopped selling new 2.2l blocks recently for some reason and crawford uses for them for their r series motors.

crawford's prices are listed on their website and you can always e-mail them for a current price quote. i haven't looked recently but i know that you'll pay more for an s4 now than i did last spring. the r4, when it was available, was about 3k more than the s4 at about 8.5k. with their billet crank i believe the r4 would be over 10k now.

thanks, nightfire. according to something i read from quirt on their forum, the fully enclosed deck has no cooling issues.

So does that mean that if someone orders a r motor from crawford they're going to be used motors? How about the S series? Are they still new motors?

no. it means you can't get an r series motor for the foreseable future as i understand it. your best source for answers is crawford.

we just installed a .052 restrictor in the oil inlet line to the element gt65 turbo. i'll post another update as soon as i can assess the impact on the oil consumption problem.

went for a drive tonight with bruce. we went over the mountain, rt 44/55 near Lake Minnewaska. He led on the way there, I led on the way back. When we go to the lookout at the top..........
me: "nice fireballs, they are about 6-8 inches and nice yellow flames"
bruce: " fireballs? flames? I shoot flames? NICE!"

nice driving with ya bruce, but next time we gotta go without all that weekend traffic.

here's the rest of the story:
i didn't believe him about the flames but who doesn't like putting on a light show. so i tried hitting the throttle and then, quick as i could for an old f**k, jump out of the car and run to the back of the car to see the fireballs for myself. i must of tried it 10 times with and without my walker.

i have no idea what he's talking about (isfh).
