it started life as a catted intermediate pipe with a resonator but we cut out the cat and replaced it with a straight through 3" section.

The high-flow midpipe would of robbed you of a good amount of power at your level i take it? Or you don't mind being catless?

it was strictly a power issue. i'd rather have a cat.

Hey Bruce I just sent you a pm by mistake, please disregard. Do you know if the catless midpipe has a resonator or just the catted one? Forgive my ignorance, one of the vendors couldn't tell me.

B.C.-

again, congrats on the stellar progress here. i have watched this thread w/ great anticipation!!!'

curious... when's the official roll-out? (and dynomometer measuring and/or tuning???) do you have goals in mind for HP/TQ/boost/af/r's , and ifso, what fuel are you using??

looking forward to you breaking the 20,000 mark (and officially beating my postcount record for one thread!!lolol).... (20,097 for my first modded thread is your goal; EASILY in reach!!!lol)

congrats and im very happy for you. you;ve enjoyed the journey to the results as well (something im very envious of, and am thankfully currently experiencing this time around!)

tuning hasn't been scheduled yet. i have some decisions to make including injectors. i'll likely be going to 1000cc's. we'll be tuning for 93, 93+wi, c16+wi.

2k update

here's the lastest:

- the beast suffered it's first breakage on the way back from the big dinner meet a couple weeks ago. the driver's-side control arm aluminum bracket (try saying that fast 6x) snapped under the stress of a rev-matched downshift/hard acceleration when one of the bolts came loose. i limped home and the problem is fixed.
snap! (front control arm bushing bracket)
WARNING! Make sure to check your suspension bolts under the car!!

- oil consumption has been a consuming issue. with the help and counsel of my vendors and iwsti friends behind the scenes, we have ruled-out that it is burning in the combustion chambers (with a compression test, spark plug inspection and a bore scope). i would like to thank each and every one of them. we did have a sm leak under pressure which we sealed and will hopefully solve the problem. if there is any more news on this i will get back to you.

- the schedule for installing aquamist and bigger injectors has been put back from the fall to the early spring for any number of reasons. it is pretty late in the season and there's not a compelling reason to get it done before then. i will be going to 1000cc injectors when we do and phil will get it on the dyno. i will have a set of perrin modifieds and a perrin fuel rail to sell when that happens because we'll be going to a top feed.

- phil is too busy to tune me in md until sometime in nov. and i'll just get a 93 road tune when we do. in the meantime, i'm going to data log a 4th gear pull and e-m it to him. it's time to start turning up the boost but i'd be more comfortable under his supervision.

we'll be prepping the beast next week for its (and my) first track day on the 29th at limerock. we have a few details to tidy up, including a coolant overflow tank, mounting a fire extinguisher, installing and bedding new brembo slotted rotors and a fresh set of pagid blues and motuls. it will be interesting to see if the suspension, which is as close to perfectly set up for the street as i can imagine, is up to the demands of the track. i already had a conversation with a few of the bmw club instructors running the school. one of the old heads was making a case that it's better to start learning with a car with modest power levels. i laughed as i told him it might be too late for that (isfh). the school consists of a short classroom session and several hours on the track one on one with an instructor riding shotgun.

if you live in the tri state ct/ny/nj area and want to do the patroon bmw driving school, please pm me right away and i'll help you get started with contact info. you will have to join the bmw club and register for the school.

one more thing.

one of the reasons phil is too busy to tune me this month is because he is driving his element tuning time attack car to a time attack race in california.
it is one thing to brag that you drive your everyday car to the race track.
it's another thing to be able to say that you drive your everyday car from maryland 3,000 miles to a race track in california
...come on...{{applauding}}...come on...applaud you b*st*rds...(isfh)

theyre the stock tumblers. ricky removed the bar, flapper, and cast divider, welded and cleaned up the holes and port matched everything back to the gaskets. everything on both the intake and exhaust sides are port matched back to the gaskets. a lot of work but the difference in air flow must be extraordinary. don't tell anyone but i used dupli-color 1200 degree blue to paint the intake, tumblers and other parts.
