Wow...

Hopefully you have turned a corner Bruce and will be smooth(er) sailing from here. You might change the title of your build to "Bleeding Edge"!

Thanks for the updates, Bruce. Again, really disappointed something like that left my shop and I have no problem accepting blame. At the end of the day, my name's on the door and I should be catching stuff like that.

Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with to help get you up and running ASAP. I'm out of the office today to attend a business meeting but if there's anything you or Phil need, just let me know and I'll get it handled ASAP.

Thanks for the full disclosure, I appreciate it.

Trey

he wants to know what we need? we need every vendor in the business to have his mindset. that's what we need.
Wow. I have more respect for Cobb than I had before, and that's saying something. Awesome folks.

update: cobb heads

i am sorry to report that one of the heads trey kicked in is unusable. there is a hole where the CNC machine cut though to the water jacket. i have a picture from phil that i may post up later but there really isn't much to see except for a small hole.

with a little massaging and cleanup, the stock heads are still completely serviceable. phil will be taking them to a local machine shop.

meanwhile, the element tuning shortblock is almost finished. as it turns out, nothing can be salvaged from the old motor including the rods, which are too long and the reason why the pistons were protruding too far.

They made a bunch of these "long rod" motors, but this is the first problem like that (that we've heard of) so I have to suspect another issue is rearing its ugly head here...hmmm, you have to wonder if Mr. Wonderful didn't mix 'n match the long rods with the standard pin height/offest pistons in your motor - that would certainly explain the problem. Those are $1K forged rods, buddy...I wouldn't just throw 'em away. How long are they?

Last, re the heads: the machinist cut thru to the water jacket? Wow...wow.

Sorry. I love Slayer.

I'm pulling for you Bruce! You'll get up in running in no time.

Is Element Tuning a complete 'In-House' engine builder/machine shop?

no, assembly and install only at this juncture. machine work is getting farmed out.

As was said in one of these 2 threads (my head is spinning after all this horror), let us know as much of the final engine specifics as possible. I can't imagine much of the build being a "trade secret", however whatever is not, let us know.

Have you looked into getting the heads repaired? My local head shop has repaired some nasty cracks/holes in aluminum heads.

i don't expect phil will want to cite the actual manufacturer of his re-branded parts, i.e., the rods, etc. i may be able to squeeze him for the tolerances he's using, though (isfh).
