an update to the update

the new plugs are in and set to .028. i did a 4th gear pull on the way home with 20 lbs. of boost and it is a smooth, linear hit you hard in the seat freakin' rush. i'll give her a good back road spanking tommorow.

a couple of other interesting subjects came up yesterday:
- phil brought up the subject of running nitro methane through aquamist this spring.
- at one point he looked up from his laptop to remark how much faster my crawford stroker is spooling up vs what he sees with stock shortblocks. i think building this project around the crawford s4 was the best decision i made.
- the funniest moment: phil looked up from his laptop and said "it really drops off after 6800 rpm...you could use cams."
eatv8 and i both looked at eachother and broke out laughing. where is davenow is when you need him? (isfh)
- we'll be installing rc 1000cc injectors and a top feed fuel rail as soon as we arrive back in md in early spring for a monster dyno tune (i'll be looking to sell my perrin fuel rail and perin 816cc modified injectors when i do).
- little ricky is going to cook me up a grounding kit. phil was only getting 12.9-13.1 volts.
- my cusco catch can is totally inadequate so i'm getting the one phil uses on his car. i'll take some pics when i get it but it's supposed to be a huge improvement.

**SALIVATES*****

(even more!!)

sounds great BC.......

Q-- why not try the SMC methanol kit, with progressive controller??

its a proven thing, and will def. give you more performance, & the added safety to run higher igntn. ontop of it........

are you using the nitro to aid spool??? i have never actually seen this done, ifso....

because hydra and aquamist go together like absolut and oj, esemes (isfh).

hydra can run another set of injectors and phil spent a lot of time working out the interface between them.

well, i think it's more of the cops in jersey than jersey as a whole. although, i don't see any reason for nj cops not to like you

good to hear everything went well. i still haven't gone for a drive in your car! this is aboslutely unacceptable, lol.

How many RPMs sooner did you reach full boost in 4th/5th/6th with the S4? I'm confused as to whether you're revving easier to boosting earlier...mayhaps a little of both? This nitromethane business sounds interesting...I switched my plans up a little bit more--keeping the gt3040 and going with a hydra instead of utec/ecutek combo.

I could be wrong, but I think Bruce's point is the extra displacement and exhaust flow is resulting in higher turbine speed at any rpm. Makes sense to me anyway....

Well I looked into nitromethane injection...

A product of nitromethane combustion is oxygen(nitromethane is 50% oxygen)...so it feeds it's own combustion to some extent..you will run leaner with nitromethane--so a good balance is to inject a balance of methanol to richen up the mixture. Nitromethane is $25-30/gallon.

Nitromethane burns very hot. An evo guy injected 10% nitromethane and burned his pistons and fried his spark plugs. So spark plugs are an issue...

Nitromethane burns very, very slowly. So it requires a lot of timing or you're going to have nitromethane exploding in your exhaust manifold. Igniting and controlling the burn isn't easy.

All you need is teflon seals for your aquamist system and nitromethane can be injected without risk of damage to the equipment.

It looks like Phil has his work set out for him on this.
