IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Bruce does need to finish and get his car on the road before Subaru incorporates all his mods into the stock 2012 STi. Otherwise he will need to change the name of his build! (isfh) This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

| dances with roads | You gotta be kidding. The STi is getting softer, not harder. Bruce need not worry that the factory car will ever be anything like his! |

I have been following his build since the very beginning and he has taken a lot of arrows in his back pushing the limits and learning what can and can't be done. While he may no longer have the biggest baddest build out there, he was definetly one of the first to go all out, and I wish him the best in seeing it to fruition.

seriously though, anybody can throw a gt4*+ on a motor and produce a bigger whp# than our measley 650, but i can do that, too. we always planned on a 2nd bigger turbo just for the strip; probably next year. on the other hand, there aren't too many street registered stis with with 550+ everyday whp, a sequential dogbox (first in the u.s. with a kapps sss) and pro level fuel system, brakes and suspension. the only cars with more technology than cutn are all top level pro time attack cars that never see dd duty. thanks, uber.

I guess I have just been infatuated with the stock block strength on the RB26 lately. Full Race did a pretty damn cool Skyline conversion on an s14 that had me thinking about the possibilities. The write up is on their website. |

| Amateur STI Driver | First time I've come across this thread. BAD luck man, gotta admire your attitude though. Keep the dream alive. I'm in the process of buying a short motor, was going to go for something like the Raw Performance (formerly Axis) stage 2 motor (Product Detail) but having second thoughts now as it sounds like he cross drills the crank? |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | i just read the product detail and it supports what i have heard; that ron is not impressed with the crossdrilling argument that phil makes here from a recent post on nasioc: Sorry I haven't checked back on this thread until now. The 08 pump has what I feel is a nicer design than the 12 mm pump and since it tested to flow more volume which is what this project needed we chose this. We shimmed it also just to give it more pressure. At first it looked like it would work out since oil pressure appeared normal for daily driving. Once the car hit the track and oil temps climbed oil pressure would drop back to about 50 psi according to the customer. While an oil cooler could help with oil viscosity they tend to drop oil pressure so it's a double edged sword. As for comparing the JDM 2.0 cross drilled crank with an aftermarket cross drilled crank, all I can say to that is the factory does it right and the aftermarket does it wrong. Ultimately though you cannot compare the EJ207s redline to that of the 2.5 motors since the stroke is longer and the bore is bigger on the 2.5. Running a USDM 2.5 STi engine to 8300 rpm is much harder on the parts than doing it on a EJ207 as it has a worse rod angle and the bore is larger requiring more ignition timing. Since we didn't build this motor I can't blame the low oil pressure 100% on the crank but from the other 6 motors we've pulled cross drilled cranks out of and the 3 other people I know who pulled them, it solved the low oil pressure issue. In the 3 motors where a 12mm pump was used it still was not enough to bring the oil pressure up. In the end there is nothing wrong with the 10 mm pump and to this day I still use it in my race setup. We've never lost a bearing or had oil pressure issues with the stock or Element built motors so why change what works? 80-90 psi all the way to redline seems to be the magic number for us. i would discuss it with ron and use your best judgement. good luck with whatevevr you decide!
