update:

last night at midnight we came within (and this is no exageration) one turn of the key before starting it up. we located a fuel leak that is probably a kinked top o-ring on the #2 cyl injector. NOW we're close.

Nice Bruce....I may be able to come next Sunday with Jake and Steve and the rest of them! BTW, I called you, but I guess the phone cut off...was telling you about this: www.BullRunCasting.com If Steve couldn't be my teammate, I was going to ask you to be mine, or even have you run your car. Have to be available for 2-Weeks in Oct. I am still in the process of being reviewed. Sent the info from that site, then they actually called me and interviewed me on the phone. I recently sent them an e-mail with all the pics and such...but I was saying to myself...what would be better? Bruce and his Beast with Little Ricky on SPIKE TV.....going from the East Coast to the West Coast....now that would be purely awesome!

update: it's alive...again! at 11:15pm on friday july 28, '06, with my right hand on the key and my left hand on my...club, cutn edg jumped to a deep lopey idle - begining it's third life as a complete time attack car masquerading as a daily driver.

we let it idle for 25 minutes. it settled into an absolutely beautiful lopey idle of 750 rpm. oil pressure, oil temp, fuel pressure, egts and water temp were all where they should be. the sound of the monster aeromotive fuel pump sitting in the trunk added itself to the usual cabin sounds. it actually sounds pretty cool and totally liveable, by my standards, anyway. we still have to place a section of dynamat under the tray which will dampen the noise a bit.

we're leaving for hawaii on sunday and will be gone for about 10 days. the "still needs to be done list" consists of sewing up what is left of the interior, the rest of the dash, seats, harnesses, etc and finishing the front bumper cover. we're missing one of the stock camber bolts up front (it snapped). some welding of the floorpan needs to be done around the cage points before reinstalling the carpet.

when i return from this trip i will still have almost two weeks in which to rack up high quality mileage in time for tuning. i can't tell you how relieved i felt hearing this thing start. very exciting. i'll do my 'thank you' post another time.

Have a great time on the beach - it'll be there when you get back. Can't wait to hear the update later on this month.

Best.

you too, fly. we're both very cat-like landing on our feet, eh?

thanks, everyone, for all your support. i feel like we have a pretty big team.

here are some shots from yesterday:

junk in the trunk:
i removed the carpet and liners and sprayed the trunk in duplicolor truck bed liner. the ss tray is 16 gauge. it was cut and bent by a local metal fabrication shop. ricky tig welded the corners. the 1" lip is to keep fuel contained in case of spillage and has already worked out as we tightened up a couple of small leaks.
on the tray:
- the 2 liter surge tank from element tuning
- the aeromotive fuel pump controller to the left of the surge tank
- the aeromotive fuel filter is in front
- the aeromotive fuel pump is in the back.
- the aeromotive check valve is on the line leaving the fuel pump in the center
- the ss lines are tied into the stock hard lines to the front
- a walbro pumps from the tank to the pot

the billet mount will be swapped out for an nhra reg box and a external battery kill handle when we have a chance.

engine bay
the big picture:

i just like this shot:
yes, that is a staticx grounding kit (isfh)

in the old battery tray:
- the element competition catch can (oil/vapor separator)
- aeromotive fuel regulator is mounted to the right
- the nitrous solenoid is hangind in the middle and is obviously not mounted yet

hydramist will be mounted in the remaining space as soon as we get it.
