IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | update: ricky stayed pretty busy. some pics: the freshly fabricated ss fuel system tray. 10"w x 24" l with a 1" lip to contain spillage; it was cut and the lip was bent at a local shop. little ricky tig welded the corners closed today and cleaned up the edges. nice, eh? ![]() ![]() the bdl top feed fuel rail required some fabrication to the tumblers. aluminum was tig welded into the casting to alter the hole patter for the rail mount. i'll have pictures of that tomorrow. it's pretty freaking crazy. IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | cage update: we initiated a recent design change because i wanted to be able to roll the seat back. it's a daily driver and i do roughly 30k a year. my normal driving position is way forward, especially for a guy my height (6'2"). we were going to set the harness bar back into the x-brace to get a couple extra inches when i wanted to stretch. that was the purpose for it. i went back to nhra's technical specs http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html and decided that i was going to have to chuck the prn leg room and run a straight harness bar between the main hoop legs; just like the diagram. we already got nhra tech to approve our under frame design, which far exceeds their specs. i didn't want to have to go back a second time and i definately don't want to get hosed on a tech inspect at englishtown or anywhere else. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | fuel system update: the bdl rails are spec'd for a wrx tumbler. the mounting holes for the rail don't match the holes for the other. there are only two choices; you hack the rail to make it bolt up to an sti tumbler or you add aluminum filler in order to build up/add the casting to create a totally new location with which to drill and tap holes to the exact location required to mount the rail: essentially turning and sti tumbler into a wrx tumbler. one takes about 20 minutes the other takes 4-8 hours. which one did we pick? he used a tig to add the aluminum to the casting. note that the castings on each end of the tumbler that houses the tumbler generator valve shafts, sensors and stepper motor have been ground off to allow an unobstructed routing for the fuel lines. i'll post progress shots as the night goes on.
