IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | I've wrapped braided line in duct tape, then cut with an air driven angle grinder. Its like a 10,000 rpm tool with a thin cut off blade. It melts the liner a bit so I would scrape it with a deburing tool when done. But either way, the stainless is cut cleanly with no fraying. With that said, I would NEVER make up my own lines unless I had the ability to pressure test them prior to use. At lease not in an airplane. All my lines in my plane are manufactured lines. Aeroquip with anodized aluminum fittings with fittings drilled for safety wire. In a car for lower pressure lines, I might do it, if I was WAY below the working pressure of the line. i.e. if the working pressure of a 1/2 in line you are using for fuel is ~300 psi, and you will be running 70 psi, then I'd be ok. I'm pulling the numbers out of my A$$ but I hope you get my point. Don p.s. on a street driven car, i'd go all stainless fittings. at least if it might see salt This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | progress update: busy day! now that the motor is here, ricky is a man possessed. he was up until 2am last night and did a lot of work today. ricky installed the sensors for the defi gauges; water temp is at 9 o'clock in the background. ricky tapped the coolant crossover for that. the oil pressure sensor is the barrel shaped object in the center and the oil temp is the tall fitting in the foreground. both are tapped into the oil galley. ![]() here's a nice pic of the timing belt pulleys and new kevlar timing belt, all set up and ready to screw on the timing cover. you can see the crucial racing thermal retention coated injen crosspipe is installed as are the ported and coated stock manifold. next time we have it on the lift we'll see if the metal heat shield will still fit (or can be made to. i'm getting into this fabrication stuff.) ![]() here's how we ended the day. you can see the timing cover is on, as are the accessory drives and belt. ![]() miscellaneous stuff: - ricky also worked on the hydra accessory harness. - i cleaned the intake manifold with simple green and i'll do some paint touch up in the few places where the wrinkle red is showing through from line and stuff rubbing against it on the old motor. the rest of the motor is going to go together quickly. - i ordered 16 gauge stainless steel from a local fabricator for the fuel system tray for the trunk. it will have a 1" elevated lip which will be cut and folded for us. ricky will tig weld the corners closed. it will be here monday afternoon. we are moving the battery box to the left rear corner of the trunk which make it easier to rig the nhra-required external battery cutoff actuator. - more fuel system news - i decided that we're going to start the car with the stock system. we won't need the competition system right away and i'll be able to start putting miles on the car as early as next week. we'll install it when we have everything ready to install in a sitting. - if we do start it, i'm going to need seatbelts, which means that the main hoop and supports have to be finished. we made a small design change that will make it easier to do. - the kartboy knuckleball shifter knob arrived with a kartboy t-shirt. we barbequed at the shop and i got ketsup and mustard all over the front of it. you can't take me anywhere. - i have a surprise that i'm going to spring on you when i'm damn good and ready (isfh).
