IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | thank you everyone. i hope no one feels discouraged. this is the kind of stuff you have to be ready to deal with if you are going out on a limb and this thing is way out on a limb. if i learned nothing else from this project, it is patience...for the things i can control and especially for the things i cannot. if your gonna be stoopit you better be tough. At 7000rpms, find out how much oil is still sitting in the pan. It will be under 2quarts . Throw some high-g's at it and think about the consequences. Cosworth didn't decide to make a big giant ugly stock oil pan for nothing . |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | i think you guys are taking this harder than i am. besides, i suck at killing myself. i tried to hang myself this morning and the rope broke. i tried shooting myself in the head and i just took out the toilet upstairs a few minutes ago. i know the ringing in my ears from the muzzle blast won't kill me. i'd jump from the window but i'd only land on my head and nothing would happen. i guess we'll just have to swap cranks and move on (iisfh). |

| Grassroots STI Racer | Aww ****, thats junk news well look on the bright side at least you got some seat time in at the track and engine didn't blow up in your face like one of those exploding novelty cigars. |

| S204 Racer | Bruce: 60 psi at 8K rpm is not enough, period. As much as I hate to join in on this matter (I was hoping, rather, to rejoice in the success), I have to concur with your decision: dropping in a stock crank is the best ($$$ wise) choice for keeping it out on the track for any length of time. Whodathunk a planned improvement to bearing oil delivery would actually turn out to be a problem in and of itself? One would hope Cobb would've caught this... So, there was just no damn way to shim the pressure up, eh? Jesus, what a frigging dilemma. It just goes to show how little sense of humor these motors have when you start modding things that impact the oiling system. Now that we've all discovered the solution to broken pistons (go forged, everyone), the problems simply move down hole to the bearings. The bleeding edge - it cuts, I know. Sorry about the setback, amigo, but it will be fixed. Last edited by Flycaster; 05-20-2008 at 06:46 PM. |

| Spec C Club | Hum you would think that a company like cobb would have done the research and development before doing such a thing since there names on the line. Bruce I spoke with my dad we both agree that the cross drilled crank will lower oil pressure. Have you thought about trying a easier way to fix the issues like adding a Cosworth high flow oil pump that should bump up your oil pressure quite a bit. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (1) | if the 08 pump won't do it, the cosworth won't either, billy. if it was a better solution, we would have done it instead. as far as cobb and this particular motor is concerned, i was cobb's r&d. it's a one-off motor and they gave it to me for free. the problem wasn't anticipated by anyone in the industry building motors two years ago. the moral of the story after all the r&d that i (and everyone else with a failure before me) did for you is, if you plan on buying or building a new motor, make sure it isn't xdrilled. ...youre welcome (insert smiley face here) |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | I think Bruce went with the '08 STi oil pump because it was basically the same as the Cosworth in terms of volume? Damn pwned by time of posting!!!!! Nevermind then ahha. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (3) | only thing I don't understand is the jdm ej207 has a cross drilled crank from the factory. OEM. 10mm oil pump and it spins to 8200 day after day after day. In fact, SUBARU had 4 (iirc) crossdrilled ej205 cranks in the states a few months ago! again, OEM. what gives?
