Thanks!

Yeah, the only reason I'd want an '06 Eclipse AVN is for the better iPod controls...

(Oh, and I *might* have had Zoolander playing while stuck in some very thick Chicago traffic the other day I only listened to the sound though...watched it at stoplights).

My Defis are no longer ghetto! I now have 3 gauges in my center pod, I installed EGT this past weekend

First, some installed pics:

I'm a big fan of the Defi Link system - two weeks ago, I had time to put the gauge in the pod (which merely required daisy-chaining it to the oil pressure gauge next to it - no other wires needed!). At that time, I also ran the sensor wire from the control unit to the engine firewall; I left it coiled there, until I was able to remove the exhaust manifold, drill/tap it, and install the sensor.

My dirty-ass car up on my new Rhino-ramps :

Overall the directions I found on IWSTI and ScoobyMods were pretty straightforward. Took out the plastic shield under the car, sprayed the heatshield with PB blaster, took those 3 bolts off. Sprayed the manifold with PB blaster, and the 5 nuts came out easily. Before the manifold was out, I marked the "button" shape in the cast with a black marker, so that I was sure to drill/tap the correct side

The manifold came out easily, and then it was the fun part: drilling

I couldn't find the center punch so I had to improvise with a nail, and unfortunately a nail doesn't do much to cast iron. I drilled a pilot hole before I stepped up to the 11/32" bit (the proper size bit for a 1/8" NPT - 27 pitch tap - my gauges are IMPERIAL, metric gauges need a different tap size!). Unfortunately my pilot hole was a little off-center, so my final hole wasn't perfectly centered on the button. My OCD side will never rest

I bought the tap at Lowe's and ended up getting the wrong size tap wrench, so I went to NAPA and bought another tap wrench. I DON'T recommend this one, I wish I had bought the large two-handle tap wrench at Lowe's instead. The NAPA one did get the job done though. I cranked the tap through about 3/4 of the way the first time, backed out, added more cutting/tapping oil, cranked again, backed out COMPLETELY, cleaned the threads with some cotton waste, and then oiled and tapped again, making sure the tap threaded properly into the previously cut portion. This last time, I was able to get the tap all the way down. I slowly backed it out, cleaned the threads, and washed the entire manifold with very hot water (to wash out any remaining iron shavings, casting oil, and cotton bits).

I threaded the EGT bung (supplied by Defi) into the manifold using some anti-sieze compound. Drilled a hole in the heatshield for the sensor to come out through, and then put everything back together again. All-in-all, not a SUPER difficult mod, but it takes some time for sure.

So far, it looks like my EGTs are spot-on
