Not much time to type much (just getting ready to get to bed... early morning tomorrow!). Let me say this: it felt as good as stock or better driving on some very rutted roads in Michigan. Felt almost luxurious the way it soaked certain bumps up... might be the bumpstops, might be the pinks, might be both

Thanks man. Keep in mind that I also have lowering camber plates up front, so it's slightly lower than just Pinks.

Haha, thanks, I think I don't think I'll have money for wheels for a longgggg time, I spent a lot already (and on tools) and need to save up for upcoming educational costs (grad school, not HPDEs!).

Don't be jealous man. It's too much trouble to take them off, and I like the look. It looks wider with the flaps on

Alright, time to get to bed, driving to L.A. tomorrow... Stay tuned for more pics. Also, the car still needs to settle a bit, so I imagine it'll be a few mms lower when I get back.

Word, I am content with my car in pretty much every aspect now. No turbo upgrades, I don't want to deal with that headache.

Alrighty... back from vacation and finally got around to getting through some 200 pictures (of which I kept 51 ). I'll start with the install pictures. I know some of these are redundant, but I decided to post some of these because I haven't seen clear/crisp/non-blurry shots of some things (like the rear strut tops).

Once again thanks to Chris (boondocksaint) for his help during the install, having 2nd (and 3rd - my friend Ian) sets of hands makes things go easier.

Stock ride height, getting ready for the install:
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2709

Painted camber bolts with Testors model paint. Worked really well, PB blaster and the sockets didn't scrub the stuff off:
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2710

The impact gun that came with my 26gal compressor kit was faulty. We lost about two hours because 1) we wasted an hour making sure we weren't being retarded, so we tried to make it work, and 2) we had to make a trip to Sears. They were luckily willing to give me store credit towards another impact (it's not their normal policy, apparently, so I got lucky ). I almost ended up having to plunk down $120 for the only 1/2" impact they had in stock, but the guy found another cheaper model at the last minute so I only ended up shelling out $30.

Finally got back to the garage and started getting the struts out!

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2711

Compressed stock springs...
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2712

Old hats and springs, new Pinks and camber plates:
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2713

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2714

FYI, the color of the plates does not mean anything, lowering plates come in black or gold, as do non-lowering plates.

Removing the front struts was not too bad, though it still gave my impact gun a workout (it's rated at 310 lb-ft max, too! ).

I replaced all four bumpstops with shorter Prodrive bumpstops. Of the four struts, only one gave us trouble... the lower strut nut and shaft started spinning together and didn't want to come off! My heart sank at that point, but my dad and PB Blaster came through in the crunch We managed to get the nut loose, and work continued.

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2715

Pinks + plates on the strut:
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2716

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2717

Front strut installed:
http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2718

So then we began work on the rear. Took the seat out, and loosened the top mount nuts before lifting the car in the air. Not too bad...

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2719

I've NEVER seen a clear picture of the rear strut top on IWSTI, so here it is:

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2720

Put the rear in the air, and then the fun began. Those rear bolts are a B!TCH to get off. Of the four bolt/nuts on the two rear struts, the impact wrench only "easily" removed ONE.

Impact gun + stubborn bolts = one borked Craftsman 19mm 1/2" drive socket.

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2721

We ended up loosening the other three bolt/nuts by using my 15" flex handle (breaker bar) with a 2 ft. piece of pipe over the end of the tool. The impact gun might have jolted them a bit, but it took manpower to break those bishes. In the process, I also sheared a 3/8" male to 1/2" female adapter clean through the middle. Busted two tools but finally got those damn rears out.

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2722

And installed:

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2723

By the way, Chris, you asked me why I didn't flip the bolt/nuts around in the rear so that the nut would face outward (like in the front). The reason you can't do that is because there's no possible way to get the lower strut bolt in because part of the brake caliper is in the way.

After the test drive I had a bad clunk in the rear passenger side, which prompted me to create this thread. Turns out the rear top mount nut wasn't impacted on well enough. I might still have bad rear struts, but they aren't clunking now.

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2728

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2729

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2730

The drop, after the install was done:

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2724

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2725

And finally, ZAINO FTW!!! I hadn't washed my car since my Zaino detailing session back in May. This is how the car looked with just a carwash! It was still beading very well, and frankly, my paint hasn't been this reflective since the car was new

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2726

http://ims.hspn.com/pic.php?u=6JwuE5&i=2727

Phew. All in all, I thought the springs were easier than the swaybars... minus the rear strut bolts

After getting my little rear strut clunking issue fixed, I had a few hours before flying out on vacation... so I met up with boondocksaint for a little photoshoot

It was noon, so the sun was really harsh I did the best I could though, I think some pictures came out ok.

My V-limited lip is off until I get an alignment. I don't want them cracking it when it is pulled on to the lift.

You can find more of my pictures of boondocksaint's WRB 06 in his journal

I wondered if there was a reason those bolts were angled the way they were. Caliper clearance FTW. I'm looking forward to my birthday. I'm asking for tools.

Yep... it didn't occur to me until afterward... we could barely get the nut back on there, let alone stick a bolt through the opposite direction

I like those GearRatchets, smart design

Thank ya sir! That's half the fun for me, the pictures It's also useful in case I need to refer back during the install to see how things were originally... came in handy at least once.

Good job on the install. If those are Craftsman sockets that you broke, take them back to sears and they'll replace them.
