Well I made the 150 mile commute to Madison this morning, and I can share my initial thoughts on Stage 1 and on the Amsoil.

First, the Amsoil. Checked my oil before I left this morning, it was looking good I was driving at a pretty good clip after I got out of Chicago traffic, and I was happy to see that my engine was running about a needle width cooler than before. With dino oil I was running pretty much dead even between the two middle ticks (so the needle was pretty much flat at 180 degrees). When I switched to Royal Purple it came down about one needle width from there, and since switching to Amsoil, it has come down one more needle width. So all in all, it's running about two needle widths cooler than dino oil did (Yes, yes, I know a "needle width" isn't the most accurate form of measure, but I don't have a water temp gauge. Yet.).

As far as Cobb Stage 1...well I think it's still learning, so I kind of expect it to improve more, but my initial thoughts are that S1 helps out more in the lower gears than up top. 5th and 6th seem about the same, though 5th did seem like it had a little more authority than before. In 5th I hit 0.11 MPa (15.95 psi, but again, I think my OEM boost is a bit off) and it tapers to about 0.1 MPa (14.7 psi). In 4th I was only hitting 0.1 MPa (14.7 psi) and it was tapering off a bit towards redline. I did a few 4th and 5th gear pulls to verify what my gauge reading was, and it was consistently only hitting 0.1 MPa in 4th. I think this is probably a sign that I should run the HWG realtime map, because I feel like I'm not hitting target boost. Please chime in if you think this is the wrong conclusion. I still want to go out with the AP plugged in to monitor the real-time boost and verify my boost gauge readings, but I haven't had the chance yet though.

Where I did feel a difference was rolling out of a toll both (I-pass lane) in 3rd gear around 4k RPM. I punched it, and the sucker hauled like I was in 4th. Definitely surprised by the thrust there. I haven't had a chance to really do a 2nd gear rolling start, but I suspect I should be able to feel the extra boost in 2nd as well.

So far, so good.

if you think your gauge may be off, start using the AP then to track your peak boost so you can see if you are going to have to run LWG or HWG maps if you didn't reach/exceeded the target boost levels.

Thanks for the input. I think that's a good idea. Is the AP boost reading pretty accurate?

I wish it could log the peak values for me so I don't have to stare at it as I go WOT in a high gear... Let's hope I don't get a ticket doing this

bring someone with you - it's the best way to go.

i think the AP is pretty accurate when you are in boost - remember that you are supposed to see 16.5 +/- 0.5 PSI for stage 1.

my car needed to run LWG in stage 1 because the "regular" stage 1 map started peaking at 17.6 after a week... so make sure you monitor it closely as in the winter you may need to do the same and go to the LWG map.

i suggest doing this all with the realtime maps so you don't use any reflashes

Ok so my impatience got the better of me and so I did a few pulls during lunch...alone...to get some readings. Currently 36-38 degrees Fahrenheit here in Madison.

These are the peak values I believe (98% sure) I saw on the AP as I hit WOT:

1st gear: 14.X psi
2nd gear: 15.3 psi
3rd gear: 15.X psi
4th gear: 16.7 psi

So, those look like target values, right? Or should I go LWG now? I'll monitor it and see if it starts to peak as time goes on.

So the OEM gauge is off by almost 1 psi (or more). It might be time to look into the Omori mechanical boost gauge and swap it in for this.

Oh...finally...just to rant...I'm sitting at Subway, staring at my car outside, watching cars as they come and go (like every 2 minutes, I swear) and they all park next to me. They all left space around me, thankfully. Except the last one...pulls in, has a passenger in her old POS coupe, and gets a bit close. I watch in horror as the passenger nonchalantly opens her door and lets it rest on my car It's a strip mall and by the time I got myself together and outside, they were in one of the shops. I had to get back to work, so I couldn't wait and chew them out . Luckily it doesn't look like she left a dent (a shallow one, if that), just a few fine white scratches. I hope they buff out. And I hope she burns in hell.

those target values look right on so far - they will be changing though nan - so keep plugging in the AP when you remember to do so...

the last person that put a dent in my car that i saw in a parking lot got a dent kicked into their door. start wearing boots.

Your water temp needle used to sit in the middle of the two hash marks? Mine has always sat like two needle widths below the middle since day one.

Maybe you need to start pushing the go-pedal harder

750 miles since I changed to Amsoil, no consumption yet. Cold starting hasn't been an issue with 10w30 either.

nobody josh?

glad to hear there's no consumption Nandan - i don't think you are going to get any unless you really are beating the car everyday all day... even then you should get minimum consumption.

It's been highway driving, but the last two Monday mornings have been a little more...exciting...getting to Madison

Plenty of WOT, 5th/6th gear pulls, triple digits...all before 8 am

Oh, and I don't know if it's the Stage 1 or what, but 6th gear feels quite lively at 85+ mph (3-4k RPM in 6th)...I don't feel the need to downshift as much.

Average fuel economy (last two weeks), traveling at night from Madison to Chicago = 22 mpg.

Average fuel economy traveling in the daylight from Chicago to Madison = 16-17 mpg.

yeah, this is from the increased torque in the lower RPM range - it definitely improves drive-ability. glad to hear you are loving it as much as i did!

Now all you need is a TBE. And, 5th gear will come alive just like 6th did.
